Giveaway: Jishaku Magnetic Game
This giveaway is now closed. Thank you for your participation.
The winner is Melanie @ Ramblings of a Busy Woman.
Congratulations!
If I had to describe Jishaku in only one word, it would be “hilarious”!
From the site: “Jishaku, Japanese for magnet, uses finely polished hematite magnets for playing pieces. There are several variations of the game but the most popular is “I’m Out”. While alternating turns with your opponent(s), the goal of the game is to place magnets onto the game base – without letting any magnets connect. ”
From the moment we opened the box, we were hooked! I was blogging when the package arrived and decided to humor Girlie Girl by playing it “just once” with her. An hour later, we were still playing and laughing like crazy! Now, you know that anything that can get me away from the computer for that long must be pretty amazing!
Basically, you take turns placing these smooth shiny magnets on to a foam board and hope it doesn’t attract the other magnets already there. When it does, it’s such a surprise that it kind of makes you jump. It’s such an easy game to play and goes by pretty quickly that you end up playing over and over. It’s one of the most fun games I’ve played in a long time!

Edges First approach. That would probably be the way I would try to play it so that’s the tip I chose to relay.
I’d love to win this game. It looks fun!

“Edges First- player will seek to place all of his or her stones in the outer holes near the frame.” Sounds tricky!
most magnets have one surface that is larger than the other. Place the stone with the larger surface in first.

This looks like an awesome game! I thought the tip “the adjuster” was pretty smart and sneaky.

The tip:
The Dropper: A player using this method will typically move quickly to place their stone, and to avoid having magnets stick to their stone while they are holding it (possibly because they are chicken), will drop the magnet from a vareity of distances above the board.
This seems like such a fun filled game; would love to win for family night at our house!!!

Slow but Committed is the way I usually go about all games. My hardheadedness thinks that ~picking a spot and sticking to it, regardless of what happens~ is a sure way to win.

Slow movements and testing of the holes
valmg’s last blog post..Gloves In A Bottle Review And Giveaway
The first time I was introduced to this Jishaku Magnetic Game was when I watched Girlie Girl and Baby Bug a few weeks ago. I was a little skeptical, but gave it a try since Girlie Girl wanted to play.
The wonderful thing about this game is that even Baby Bug was able to play it with us; and, that, in itself, was wonderful because there are not many games where a two year old can play with older children (or adults). It is truly a game for ALL ages.
Baby Bug was enjoying and laughing so much that Girlie Girl and I were laughing just watching her reaction every time the magnets would connect (her eyes would light up with delightful surprise). It made the hours go by so much quicker. I must say it was truly a FUN game!
I think “The Adjuster” is kinda sneaky, but I guess it’s fair if they mention that as a strategy!
have your button on my sidebar!
tip:
Slow movements coupled with a testing of holes, where the magnet is rotated to determine its impact on surrounding stones, yields the best results. But be careful, testing has it’s own inherent risks- strong magnets will jump even before you place your stone if you don’t keep a wary eye on the board.

I like the idea about using the smaller magnets or placing them flat side down. Don’t know if that would really work to well, but I’d try it! My son would love this game! If I don’t win, I think I’ll still buy Jishaku for his upcoming birthday.

1 Star. This method is disruptive of magnetic force and encourages other stones to jump and can result in multiple magnet connections. Watch the “Jishaku In Action” video for some prime examples of this.
go slow and test the holes
I would probably use the one start approach.
Larger Stones First- saves smaller, presumably less strong magnets, for last when the board is fuller
I would use the tip for using slow movements coupled with the testing of holes.Sounds like an interesting game.
Larger stones first, I would love Hubby and I to play this one.
Larger Stones First- saves smaller, presumably less strong magnets, for last when the board is fuller
I think I would be a Larger First strategist saving the smaller, weaker stones for the end.

larger stone always go first
Edges First
use the largest stones first
Flat edges down.
Moving slowly has less disruptive impact on the magnetic force of surrounding stones. However, ignoring how the magnet is affecting other stones, without seeking another possible place to put your magnet, invites trouble.

Interesting game. I would probably be an adjuster.

Skilled players learn to use magnetic force in their favor- repelling the magnets closest to them without forcing them into other magnets
Flat side down.
I swear, this game sounds like a steroid-ridden version of Spill the Beans (or something along that lines). I want one! Err… I want one for the kids!

Play slowly but committed!

“Flat side down” to make it less likely the stone will jump out of its hole.

use the larger stones first. I also liked the speed demon way of playing. Thats how I would play
1 Star. This method is disruptive of magnetic force and encourages other stones to jump and can result in multiple magnet connections.
My kids love these stones, we bought them some when we saw them at a gift store.
The younger cousins wanted them so they ended up giving most away so the others would also have fun playing with them.
This would be great to play in car when we travel 1200 miles one way for a wedding.
Thank you for a chance to win.

Watch the reaction of the other stones as you place one to see if they’re going to jump.
