This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to commentor #45: Kayla!
I spend most of my free time on the computer. However, for some reason I have never really gotten used to using my laptop’s touchpad. That’s why whether I’m blogging, researching, or doing a little online shopping my mouse and I are pretty much inseparable. The only problem is that if I don’t take constant breaks, my wrists and arm start to feel the stress.
I was recently introduced to a brand new product call ErgoMotion Laser Mouse ($49.95) and thought, “Why not give it a try?”
The ErgoMotion Laser Mouse utilizes a patented motion-base that conforms to the user’s natural hand and wrist positions while they work.
Set-up was as easy as can be . . . no software to download, no disc to keep track of, no registration. I just inserted the (2) AA batteries (included), plugged in the tiny transceiver into my USB drive, turned the mouse on, and I was all set. My mouse immediately started working.
The hardest part was getting used to the feel of the new mouse in my hand. I’m a creature of habit and it’s hard for me to adjust to something new. In fact, if I closed my eyes and you put 5 different wireless mice in front of me I can guarantee you I’ll find my mouse. So using a brand new mouse that moves in a totally different way was a little hard in the beginning and I couldn’t be as productive as I usually am. However, after a couple of days I was loving it!
According to Smartfish Technologies:
“Many ergonomic products on the market today are designed to find the perfect “fixed position†to alleviate stress to the user’s hands and wrists while they work. These products are designed with the belief that by placing the user’s hands and wrists at a “natural†angle this will properly address Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI). However, studies show repetition, not the position, induces RSI such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), proving that any fixed position will not solve the problem. In fact, over time, prolonged work in the same position will only cause injury no matter how natural the position.”
“ErgoMotionâ„¢ is built on the concept that movement is the key to healthier computing. The medical community has long supported movement to be beneficial to the human body, which promotes blood flow and decreases inflammation—inadequate blood circulation and inflammation are both considered key contributors to RSI. It was Smartfish’s founder, Dr. Jack Atzmon, who’s own experience with RSI lead him to question the effects ergonomic computer products had while he worked. Through Dr. Atzmon’s own research he challenged “fixed-position†products and their claimed benefits, and developed a theory that motion was the solution to true ergonomics.”
So what does this mean? Basically, since the mouse is on a pivot base so my hand never stays in the same fixed position. Whenever I move the mouse around, my wrist flexes with it. I also like that bottom of my hand isn’t constantly resting and dragging on the mouse pad.
I’ve been using the ErgoMotion Laser Mouse for a couple of weeks now and I haven’t had any pain or stress in my wrist or arms. I’ve also gotten used to the feel of this new mouse and I’m flying across the screen now! Plus, the transceiver is so small that I can leave it in my USB port even when I pack the laptop to go.
It’s a great addition to anyone who’s on the computer for an extended period of time. Your wrists and arms will thank you!
