Charlie’s Playhouse Giveaway
This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to commentor #76: GG!

Growing up, Science was never really my favorite subject. However, maybe if we had a toy company like Charlie’s Playhouse back then, things would have
been very different. This very unique company was named after Charles Darwin and offers kids as young as 4 years captivating games and toys to stretch their scientific literacy.
“Our children deserve to know about the dazzling history of life on this planet,” explains Kate Miller, PhD, founder and president of Charlie’s Playhouse. “Toy stores are brimming with educational toys on every science — physics, chemistry, geology, even biology — but nothing on evolution. Dinosaur toys are everywhere but they don’t talk about evolution. We know from our research that parents and teachers are looking for these products.”
OUR REVIEW
We received their Giant Evolution Timeline Play Mat to review and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun it looked! It opened up to cover 18 feet of my living room floor and included an activity guide to help me get a great overview of the timeline just in case the girls started asking questions. I found the cartoon images to be engaging and liked how each one talked a little about what made them unique in the Evolution process.

My girls liked that this play mat was big enough to walk on as they moved their way from 600 million years ago to the present day. Along the way, Girlie Girl read about the different periods to Baby Bug and they “ewww’d” at the bugs and were amazed at the dinosaurs.
The great thing is that I learned a few things, too, and received a new-found interest in Evolution. Did you know that in the Silurian Period they had scorpions almost 3 feet long? YIKES! However, the best part is that all the hard words phonetically spelled out so I can sound like I know what I’m talking about when I read the mat to my girls. They think I’m so smart.
Over at Charlie’s Playhouse, you can also find a free bibliography of children’s books on evolution, including picture books, story books, pop-ups, comics, coloring books, activity books, books in Spanish, very old books, very new books — all for readers aged three through fifteen. Charlie’s Playhouse has highlighted its top twelve picks and selected some “recession buster” books that everyone can afford. The company also links to recommended science websites where parents and teachers can learn more about evolution. Stop by today!
