Beast Friends Forever The Super Swap-O Surprise (Giveaway)

Now that Kacie (9) is reading chapter books, finding ones that she really enjoys can sometimes be difficult. So I wasn’t really sure if she would like Beast Friends Forever The Super Swap-O Surprise by Nate & Vince Evans. After all, it’s a pretty silly book with silly words like “booger” and “poop”. However, she ended up enjoying each and every page.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Nine-year-old Zeke and his seven-year-old sister Hannah have a furry, two-foot-tall beast named Otto living under Zeke’s bed. In the second installment of this wacky series, the siblings experiment with Otto’s magical “Swap-O” ability to exchange everyday item for interesting objects.

OUR REVIEW

Beast Friends Forever The Super Swap-O Surprise is an interesting combination of a chapter book and comic book in that not only is the story divided into readable chapters but there’s also tons of black & white illustrations to help the reader get a good feel of the characters.

In this second installment, Zeke and Hannah take Otto to the park to conduct their swap-o experiments and end up running into a bully named Sid the Squid. Apparently, Sid has been terrorizing Zeke since the first book and doesn’t seem to be backing down now. He challenges Zeke to a soccer game but Otto has other things in mind. He turns the soccer ball into a pig and then rotten fruit all to the surprise of Sid. However, when a tree ends up being a huge dinosaur Sid goes running in terror. Whether or not he’ll still be bullying Zeke in the next book has yet to be seen.

Overall, this was fun book for Kacie to read and she was able to finish it in about 30 minutes. The only thing that I didn’t care for was all the name calling throughout the book like “banana brain”, “loser”, “bird brain”, and “dork”. Now, I know these are not actually curse words but I still wouldn’t be too happy to hear my kids call each other by these names.

I’m not too sure if we’ll get the 3rd book, if and when it comes out, but Kacie does want to know what happens to Sid the Squid and if Otto will ever return home. So as the story goes, it is pretty interesting. However, I just have to make sure I talk to Kacie about the “not so nice” language.
