Like most adults, I grew up watching Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts Gang during special occasions throughout the year. I remember circling the air date in the weekly newspaper to make sure I didn’t miss it. Now that I have children of my own, I want to share with them these classic episodes in hopes that they can make their own special memories.
We recently had the opportunity to review a copy of A Charlie Brown Valentine on DVD courtesy of Warner Home Video.
“Love is in the air as Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang make plans to celebrate the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday. It’s the most romantic time of the year and everyone has big hopes of having their dreams of love and friendship fulfilled. Charlie Brown once again finds himself wishing he had the courage to ask the Little Red-Haired Girl to the dance. While he pines away for her, Peppermint Patty and Marcie do their best to woo him.”
Valentine’s Day has always been my favorite occasion. What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic. In fact, I remember being in elementary school and secretly hoping that the boy I had a crush on would send me a heart-shaped card. He never did.
So when my girls and I watched this DVD, I could totally relate to Charlie Brown. I’m sure we all can in one way or another. I think that’s what makes these episodes so popular throughout the generations. That and the fact that it’s just pure wholesome family entertainment. There are no questionable scenes, bad language, or violence. And yet even without all the negative features that you’ll find in so many other kids movies these days, my girls still love watching the Peanuts Gang. Thank goodness because it gives me an excuse to watch all my favorite ones over and over again!
