Traveling With Kids – Tip 2

It’s pretty pretty much understood that when you travel with your children you should pack extra clothes for them in your carry-on “just in case”. However, do you pack extra clothes for yourself?
Last night, we had a Mother on our flight that wished she did. We hit some pretty bad turbulence and her 1 year old got sick all over her. Unfortunately, she did not have anything to change in to. It was a pretty unpleasant flight for both herself and the passengers around her.
So, tip #2 is: Pack an extra set of clothes in your carry-on for everyone in your family. You’ll be glad you did.

What? Nobody enjoyed Eau de Puke?
Have you ever tried to change your clothing in one of those airplane lavatories?

Good advice, even if you don’t have small children traveling with you. My SIL had her bag misplaced in transit, and had to borrow something to wear…to our wedding!
Good advice! I always bring extra clothes for my son, first aid kit and toiletries whenever we go out but rarely do I bring extra clothes for myself unless it’s a long trip.

… i learned that the hard way! on our flight back to japan early this year from our vacation in the philippines, my baby, who was 7-months old that time, got sick on the plane and it manifested itself on me (you know what i mean)! i’m so glad that he did it a few minutes before arriving japan but we were walking to the immigration, baggage counter smelling like spoiled milk!

Our oldest dd gets motion sick on airplanes, which we didn’t know until our flight from LA to Korea. About 4 hours into it, she vomited all over my dh. Being a man, he was able to take off his shirt, rinse it out and wrap himself in a blanket for the rest of the flight. When we arrived, his shirt was dry but stiff and only a little smelly. We still had to clear customs and had a 45 minute drive home from the airport. We always take at least an extra shirt for everyone in the carry-on now. And we put all the airsick bags in her seat pocket.

I’m so glad that I’ve never experienced this cuz I wouldn’t have had the extra clothes either.
totally different topic:
My brother used his miles to get Mom & Stepdad’s tickets to come here. He booked two round trip tickets for them to come here and then return on Friday. I’m guessing he was going to go and change Mom’s return ticket later to when she goes home in Jan…but apparently he never did because Stepdad had to tell just about everyone that my Mom wasn’t coming…yet he was still greeted with a wheelchair when he arrived in Tampa. I told him he should have let them push him through the airport! LOL! Mom says it gets you where you need to go much faster as they’re able to bypass some things. But now Mom’s all worried about my brother’s miles getting wasted on that ticket. I told her that it was his fault…he should have taken care of it 24 hours before the flight…and the airlines doesn’t care cuz they gave that seat to someone flying standby.

I can second the extra clothes thing, but put them in a carry-on. We had an instance last year where the luggage caught the last plane out for the night, but we didn’t. (Long story…)

That’s some great advice! I ALWAYS bring extra cloths with me everywhere.. I’ve even gone to a friends house (who had a baby) and I was watching the baby while the mom was in the shower and the babies diaper leaked (long story short.. she went poo and I was waiting for her to get done before I changed her diaper.. she had a history of waiting till you changed her diaper to finish.. lol) well anyway she went and it was ALLLL over my pants. I had NOTHING to change into so I had to borrow my friends pants.. luckily we we’re about the same size.

now there’s something you can copyright and become a millionaire. A Flight Apron. Sell them for a bit over cost – and if anyone Ralphs on you, just chuck it and buy another.
Great tip I would never have thought of.

OMG… that is awful!! Thanks for the tip!! You know, I pack like a mad-woman for all the boys and never once thought to pack an extra pair of clothes for myself. Thank you!!

Good point! I fly so seldom that I’d probably completely forget to pack myself spare clothes. My “kids” are 15 and 20, too, so they’ll pack themselves, but I need to remind them of important things like this.

That’s an excellent idea! We always think about packing for the kids but not for ourselves.
