Hey, Stewardess!

September 15, 2007

Last night I flew into Seattle and the weather was so nice. It was 53 degrees outside. What a big change from suffering in the 90+ degrees at home!

When we were checking into the hotel, we saw another one of our crews in the lobby having a briefing session. They’re flying this morning to Phoenix with some very special passengers on board - The Seattle Seahawks.

Every football season, our airlines is contracted to fly the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders to their away games. I’ve actually tried to stay away from these flights due to all the horror stories I’ve heard about the way the flight attendants are treated. Not only are you constantly ogled, but you’re constantly kept busy by running back and forth serving them. There is never a moment of down time.

However, I’m now thinking how cool it may be to do at least one of these flights. How often do you get a chance to meet an entire professional football team in person?

Would you do it?

No. Because there are a ton of other people I’d rather meet before I met a football team.
College football team, maybe. But not professional. I’ve lost a lot of respect for pro-athletes. Always getting paid millions and whining they are worth more, getting arrested for drugs, rape, disorderly conduct, wah wah wah.
Yeah, they wouldn’t WANT me on their flight b/c I’d probably say something rude to them! :)

As much as I love watching football, I don’t think I’d do it. Those guys are too pampered and have too much of a sense of entitlement. I’m not sure I’d keep my job that long after being around them! Then again, maybe I could teach a few of them a thing or two about respect…

If it were me, I think I’d try it once. It might be a fun experience, or it might be as dreadful as you think… but I would say most things are worth trying once. (Well, apart from the obvious exceptions to the rule!) The atmosphere on a flight where everyone knows each other would be really different from a normal one… and hey, you’d always be able to have horror stories about the way that so-and-so treated you… People would bring up a player in conversation, and you can say “oh, but he’s really not as nice in person as you’d think…” with a shrug of the shoulders, and then everybody would think you were way cool. Ok, I’d think you were way cool.

Although if you flew with the Seahawks, it would be LOVELY if a drink just accidentally spilled in Holmgren’s lap. Ever since he so ungraciously ditched the Packers a few years ago, pretty much all Packer fans are required to detest him!

holds no intrest for me. I would pass.

I’d try at least one. Jeff always has great stories to share when he gets to fly the “big wigs.” Of course, he has a different role than you, but you’d still have wonderful memories and know whether to choose those again. I think it would be fun!

Although I agree with the other comments, I would have to try it at least once just for the sake of some good stories. The staff of the airline would have to come out with at least one! :o)

By the way, I think you should do a post for those of us who are nervous flyers! I could use some tips from a pro. I have to fly in a couple of weeks and I am sooooo not a fan of flying. LOL I would love to hear thoughts from someone like you. :o)

If I liked telling crazy stories I might go for it. Otherwise, no way!

Maybe ONE time… but I’d probably end up losing my job! Diplomacy is NOT my strong suit….

Heck yes I’d do one! Just one would probably be enough–but if I could get a few whistles and hey babes thrown my way, I’d sooo do it! Of course its me, I walk around the neighborhood to see who’s getting a new roof so I can get a whistle (hehe).

Aww, I’m kidding–but I think I really would do one flight just for the stories–can you print the funny stories and share them with us? xo

I would pass. Too much testosterone in a confined space!

Obviously I’m pass the oogling stage. If they really act that way I’m very disappointed in them.

Well, from my perspective . . . I wouldn’t go out of my way.

My perspective is unique. You see, a very famous football team used to hold their training camp at the college I attended. And the players lived in the apts. right across the street.

Those would be the same apts. I lived in. With 3 roommates.

The term “wild summer” does not begin to sum it up. But that was nearly 30 years ago and things ar different today, right???? (Well, they are in my life, but I can’t speak for football players.)

What college? What team? Here’s a hint: At the time, Bryan Gumbel was an arrogant local sportscaster. He had really big hair and an attitude to match. He used to stand right outside the door to our apt. and broadcast the sports report.

Interesting question… I’m not sure what I would do. Depends on how bad the horror stories are!!

I probably wouldn’t do it. Same reasons you mentioned. But I’d love to see Mike Holmgren. (He used to coach our Packers, you know.)
