Goodbye Flat Stanley

January 9, 2007

A couple of weeks ago, we had a visitor from Oklahoma come to stay with us. His name is Flat Stanley.

He was the perfect houseguest . . . quiet, clean, didn’t eat much, and he didn’t take up too much room. While he was here, he kept a journal. With his permission, I will now share some of his entries.

My Adventures in Paradise

12/23/06 – Today I arrived in sunny Hawaii on the island of Oahu. I’m staying with a really nice but somewhat chaotic family in Honolulu. There’s DH, Kailani, Girlie Girl and Baby Bug.

12/24/06 – Today the family took me with them to Maui for the day. I got to ride in first class on the airplane! That was a fun experience! Check out my kukui nut lei!

We went shopping at the Kaahumanu Shopping Center where they have a children’s play area. Here are some fun things I got to see:

A stingray

An octopus (tako)

Look at me! I’m a turtle (honu)!

12/25/06 – It’s Christmas morning! The girls must have been really good this year because Santa left them a whole bunch of presents. I hung out on the tree to get a better view of the festivities.

12/27/06 – Kailani had to go to work today so she took me along. Here I am keeping her company on the ride to the airport (she’s a flight attendant). What a beautiful day!

Here I am hanging out in the cockpit. Boy, they sure have a lot of buttons in here!

I wonder if the Captain will let me fly the plane? Probably not since I can’t reach the controls.

01/01/07 – Happy New Year! Kailani had to work today and took me along again. This time she was headed for Las Vegas! Woo Hoo!

This is the casino in the California Hotel where all the Hawaii people come to play. Kailani didn’t know she wasn’t supposed to take photos of the slot machines. Security came and scolded her. However, when she nicely explained what she was doing, they let her off the hook. Whew! Thank goodness!

We also stopped by the Bellagio Hotel on The strip where I met a polar bear

And hung out (literally) on a 30 foot tree made of giant ornaments! It’s a good thing I’m not afraid of heights!

Anyway, I’m now back in the islands and my time is almost over here. The family really wanted to take me to the beach but the weather hasn’t been cooperating lately. And besides, I don’t think rain would be good for my complexion. I did do some shopping while I was here. Check out all my souveniers!

A hui hou e malama pono. Aloha!

(Until me meet again, take care. Goodbye!)

Flat Stanley

That is so funny and cute! Flat Stanley actually visited J’s nephew last year :-) Mr. Stanley actually gets around. BTW nice new blog design. not too crazy about the pink but a nice one nevertheless.

** Really? You don’t like pink? LOL! I hear there’s a bunch of Flat Stanleys circulating the blogosphere!

oh … this was just the best.
I read Flat Stanley to my two eldest grandkids when they stayed with us for a short spell almost two years ago.

I’m going to send this link to them and have them read it.

I know they will just be tickled “pink.” (I had to get that pink in there — giggle)

** I’ve never seen Flat Stanley in person before. This was a fun experience for me!

You are such a great hostess! If my son gets assigned Flat Stanley this year, I’ll be sure to let you know!

Have I mentioned yet today how great your new template is? It’s so YOU!

** Not too pink?

That’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen!

I’m relieved that casino security let you off with a scolding. Otherwise, it could have been the R-rated “Flat Stanley Goes to Jail” story. LOL My dark side is showing!

** My fellow flight attendants was hoping I’d get arrested. That way I could get some cool jail photo shots of Flat Stanley. I wonder how that would go over with the kiddies?

No, not too pink — just right, just like you!

You did good with Flat Stanley :).

Year ago (before Flat Stanley) a friend of ours who used to travel a lot bought a stuffed monkey for another friends kids. Every time he went somewhere he took the monkey and took all sorts of photos of it all over the world. I always thought that was pretty cool of him, especially since he was a single guy in his early 30’s.

** Wow, that was pretty nice of him. I bet he’d make a great father one day!

I enjoyed the tales and pics of Flat Stanley’s visit.

Try taking him across the border to Canada and back again (via road, not airport). You will most definitely get arrested for taking pictures of the border crossing building. I almost did when I tried to photograph the America flag. LOL

** I had no idea that you couldn’t take a photo of the building. Do you know why?

Auwe, somebody wen kamash Stanley! He so cute and lovable. I think so I better look for him. do they have him in the book stores? My mo’opunas would love him.

** I would think he’s in the bookstores. If not, you can go to his website and they have all the instructions on how to make you own Flat Stanley. It’s pretty cool!

Boy, Flat Stanley sure had more fun with you than at our house. I’m sure he’ll be talking about his time with you for a long time!!

How fun is that! Although, I must admit, I feel like I’ve been living under a rock. This is the first I’ve ever heard of Flat Stanley.

Flat Stanley is the best! He gets to go everywhere, treated to the finest things, and he is such a normal guy! He never gets caught up in the experiences he has. I’m glad he got the chance to meet all of you!

My friend’s kids did this and it was so cute. I can’t wait for Jayke to do it. I will send him to my cousin in Colorado. She is a writer and so creative…I know she would do a great job with “Flat Jaykeb”!

Flat Stanley went to visit my sister. She didn’t really go anywhere, so my hubby PhotoShopped Stanley into her honeymoon pics. Did you know Flat Stanley could parasail?
