Why Milk?

My girls love milk. In fact, the girls can go through a gallon of milk in just a few days. Thank goodness for Costco! I, on the other hand, could drink more milk. My liquid diet usually consists of Vitamin Water, coffee, and fruit juices. Usually the only time I drink milk is with my cereal. And I’m not alone.

According to a new survey conducted by the national Milk Council, more than 1,000 moms across the U.S. reported fruit drinks and slushies among their children’s top summertime drinks. With 84% of Moms looking for healthy beverage alternatives, it’s even more important to creatively incorporate milk into meals and snack times. And did you know an eight-ounce serving of milk costs less than 25 cents on a gallon basis.

In addition to ensuring our kids absorb their vitamin D during the summer months, milk also delivers eight other essential nutrients. Just because the temperature rises outside doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice nutrition for sugary lemonades, soda or sports drinks. These store-bought options also usually prove high in hidden calories. Milk proves a healthy essential that fits easily into my family’s daily summer routine. For this reason, the national Milk Mustache “got milk?” Campaign presents healthy tips, recipes and snack ideas to get your kids excited about drinking their milk during summer on whymilk.com.

While visiting the Why Milk? I stumbled upon the Beverage Analysis. Here I was able to list the type and sizes of beverages that I consume in a day. I also inputed my height, weight, age, and gender. It then gave me my beverage nutrition facts as well as a personal analysis of my total liquid diet. It was a real eye opener!

They also have some really great recipes to help you get your daily intake of milk. Our family’s favorite was the Strawberry Sunrise Breakfast Smoothie. The best part was that it didn’t require a lot of ingredients and it tasted great! And who doesn’t love strawberries in the summer?

So stop by whymilk.com today to get some great information, tips & tools, as well as some delicious recipes! Thank you to Mom Central for helping to get the word out!

Do your kids get enough milk?

I have 6 children and I have 3 that love it and consume enough milk for the other 3 that don’t want anything to do with it. They are like their mother who only uses enough milk to get her cereal down.

Thanks for the tips… I will have to use some of those great recipes to get that milk in…

Let me put down my glass of milk first. I have the opposite problem in my household. We usually go through six gallons of milk a week. I am a regular guzzler. As is my son. I have to make sure we drink more water.

Fabulous photos! My oldest son loves milk, but prefers water. He will drink a glass or two a day if reminded. My little guy is still nursing and has tried milk once or twice (concerned about milk allergy after big kid had one). I have never liked milk and still avoid it most of the time. I drinks several 32 ounce Nalgene bottles of water a day and take my calcium and vitamin D pills. Of course, we get plenty of cheese and other dairy products, just not so much milk here.

I don’t like drinking regular milk either, and usually just have it in my cereal like you. DH and I have gotten into the habit of having a smoothie with yogurt, juice and fruit everyone morning. It makes me feel good to get some of that out of the way early!
