Why I Need a Style Makeover from Windows #WindowStyle

Before I had kids I used to get my hair cut every 6 weeks, a manicure at least once a month, and spent money on *gasp* clothes for myself. Now I’m lucky if I can find the time to color my hair at home using the store bought solution I found on sale. Boy, times have sure changed . . . and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My kids and my family are worth it.

However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t long for a day of pampering or a stylish make-over. It’s just that I do not have the time. With 3 young girls (ages 10, 6, 2), a full-time job as a flight attendant, blogging, and being president of the PTA any free time I have is usually spent catching up on my sleep.

So why do I need a makeover?

First of all, I haven’t cut my hair in over 6 months. I love my highly-sought-after stylist but a trip to his salon for a cut and color means a major time commitment on my part. And as much as I’m thrilled with the results I can only spare those precious hours a few times a year. So instead I’ve been resorting to cutting my own hair at home. I thought I was doing a good job until I went to work one day and a friend of mine said, “Goodness! What the heck happened to your bangs?” Yeah, gotta love her honesty. I really need a new style and I love the various looks of Carrie Underwood.

Next, as a flight attendant, I use my hands a lot whether I’m serving drinks, helping people with seatbelts, or pointing to the nearest exit. Needless to say, my hands are always in the spotlight. I used to get monthly manicures complete with acrylic nails and little painted flowers but you would never guess it if you saw my nails now. For the most part, I only use clear nail polish and not because I think it looks nice but because you can’t tell if it starts chipping. However, if given the chance I would love something a little more sparkly.

And finally, my Mommy wardrobe pretty much consists of jeans and 3 piles of t-shirts . . . stay-at-home (the ones with the stains and holes), casual (faded but clean), and dressy (any tee that’s black). It’s funny because I never used to wear t-shirts outside the house. No matter where I was going it would have to be something cute with matching shoes and handbag. I mean, you just never know who you’re going to run into, right? My style used to be anything pink, frilly, or feminine. Now I grab for the quickest and most comfortable clothing item I own.

Over the years, I’ve been comfortable with the way my fashion style has evolved (or should I say dissolved) but there are times when I miss those self-pampering days. That’s why I’m hoping to be a part of the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover event happening in NYC during BlogHer12. Wish me luck!

I hope you win the contest! Your nails are in the spotlight more than other peoples! Think about all the passenger compliments you’d receive if you had those nails!
