Is It My Birthday . . . Again?

August 27, 2008 by
Filed under my family, random thoughts

When I went to work last weekend, I complained to DH about my Nintendo DS being taken over by a pair of tiny 2 year old hands. When I came home, this is what I found waiting for me:

Woo hoo! Not only did I get a brand new DS but also a cool alarm clock to be used with my iPod.

What’s a nice surprise (material or non-material) that you’ve gotten recently?

*Update: My apologies for the misleading title. It wasn’t really my birthday, it just felt like it was. :-)

well, it wasn’t really a surprise per se…i got a new van. i got it on sunday…was thinking i wouldn’t have it until maybe a cpl months from now. i know my hubby would liked to have waited for another year, but he said back about 3-3 1/2 yrs ago, that in 2008 when our truck was paid for, we could buy one. now, all i need is a new camera, an itouch, lemme see what else? LOL jk but those would be nice. lol

My husband’s ex-boss (a REALLY sweet, generous lady) gave us a new portable dvd player for our kids. How great was that?!

I finally got my Wii last week! Not that I can ever get my hands on it with the 7 kids in my house. And the time I did play, I nearly got my butt kicked at bowling by a 4 year old. I only beat her by one point.

My DH and I are a little older than you guys and all our kids are living on their own so there are no game systems or iPods or cell phones around here to fight over.
But last night my DH came home from work with a giant bouquet of flowers and a beautiful diamond necklace for me! He said it was just a small “Thank You” for standing by him & supporting him through the last 2 years of his cancer scare. For going with him to all of his doctor visits, lab appointments, hospital visits, through surgery and treatment. It has been 2 years now and he is cancer-free! That is the greatest gift I’ve gotten in a while!!

    NICE!!

A nice surprise I got this week was small, but appreciated. My hubby broke the carafe to our coffee maker. I looked online and found that a replacement was going to cost about $20 + shipping + the cost of buying coffee for a week until it arrived.

I called a local kitchen store and the guy said someone had returned a defective machine several months ago, but he held onto the carafe. He offered to GIVE it to me for FREE if we came by in the next day or so.

We went down there right after work, and presto! The kindness of that man probably saved us over $30!

    Very nice!

Wow! What a nice surprise! My husband, feeling guilty over not getting me anything but flowers for our anniversary, bought me a laptop before we went on vacation this summer so I could get my Internet fix while on the road.

    Surprise? What’s that mean? LOL!!

I’ve got nothing!! Not even when he went away on business last week, left me home in the new to us house unpacking, painting, etc. with 3 kids while he was away. Ugh.

I’d like to have a Ipod so we can have a alarm clock like that too. Oh well, not happening anytime soon.

    thoughtful man you got there!!

I thought that BB had her own DS, I didn’t realize that she had stolen yours! LOL! I’m glad that you got your own now. Yes, your DH is a sweety!

My DH gave me a gift card to one of my favorite stores…only I haven’t been able to find anything that I like there! So instead I’ll spend the card on DD and then charge up the credit card for me. ;) I want some bling!

Nothing as fun as what you got! My newest “toy” if you want to call it that is hardwired bluetooth in our cars. My wife says she can’t imaging living without it now. The new laws in CA finally urged us to make the plunge and it has been worth it.

Happy Birthday! What a fun loot pile!

  36. 36

Aww, what a sweetie he is! I can’t remember any recent surprises off hand, though he’s always doing thoughtful things for me. Last year I was having major computer problems and was ready to toss it out the window. Came home to find a brand new laptop waiting for me!

  37. 37

My birthday was on thursday and all I got was a trip to the emergency clinic with my husband because he was sick. Oh well, we’re going on a cruise in a week so that makes up for it!

The nicest recent surprise was that my 22 year-old son said he would call his grandparents on their anniversary…AND HE DID. That was worth a whole boatload of chocolate to me!

  42. 42

Ooh, now that’s the kind of non-birthday gift that I wish I’d get surprised with – how awesome of your hubby! :)
