Go out and get yourself some Uggs. They are the best thing for cold weather, they can keep your feet warm in -30 degree weather! If the real Uggs aren't in your budget, just look around from some knock offs, they are almost just as good!

Yeah, just wear layers and take lots of breaks for hot chocolate. California ski resorts aren't as bad as some places though. You'll be fine. Lake Taho ski resorts are beautiful and there are plenty of lodges to warm up in!

I love leggings. I'm so glad they're starting to come in to style. It gives me an excuse to wear a skirt in the winter.

Sorry this is coming to you so late! Being hapa (you know what that means) and living in Seattle for many years this is what you will need for your little wahines:

Under Armour - I play soccer outdoors in Seattle all year round and any one who knows me knows, if I don't have my under armour I'm not going outside. Best think ever! And, you should try their summer gear!

If you are going to take your girls in the snow, put plastic shopping bags under their socks. Trust me, if their feet get wet AND cold, they are toast.

Dress in this fashion in extreme cold; Undergarments, pantyhose (on both top and bottoms, cutting out the crotch and toes allow for wearing as a shirt, the groin hole is where the head is placed), nylon/spandex head coverings (like those found in the ethnic section of the hair section of the local big box store), thermal underwear, thin over clothes like turtleneck sweaters and slacks, then sweaters and sweat pants, and thin (dress) gloves, covered finally by thermal (folding, behind the head-worn) earmuffs, warm hats, water resistant coats, water resistant thermal gloves, and snow suits. In high winds or skiing conditions, add ski goggles and a neoprene facial mask.

If all this isn't enough, get some hand warmer things and put one pair in your shoes/boots, one pair between the glove layers, and one pair in your innermost pants pockets to help preserve both core and extremity temperatures.

If you plan to go the chapstick-as-facial-protection route, grab yourself some Eucerin original lotion for any other exposed skin. It's thick, but it is exactly what your skin needs for the weather.

I wrote this once already, and it sounded much nicer the first time, but Wordpress ate my comment. It's not as pretty this time, but all the info is still there.

They recommend what is really called Cuddl Duds Climatesmart because the microfiber with Coolmax fabric traps body heat to insulate from cold. If you do a search on Intimateguide.com for Cuddl Duds (no e on cuddl) then you can see who sells it cheapest online.

I agree with the heavy socks, lip balm and good hat. Hat that covers your ears! Make sure the kids have covered ears because of infections. And you'll still need your sunglasses because the light bounces off the snow and makes it brighter.

Search for Wigwam Husky Crew Sock for the heavy wool socks.

We went north in Dec. for 2 weeks and the kids played in only 1 inch of snow just so they could touch it.
