American Idol – Hollywood Week

So last night was the beginning of the much anticipated Hollywood Week and the arrival of brand new judge Ellen Degeneres. And even though I did enjoy the show, for some reason it just wasn’t as interesting as past years. I’m not sure if it was the editing or the format or the singers but it just didn’t hold the same appeal.
Even so, there were a few contestants that really stood out for me:
- Katie Stevens – For Once in My Life
- Andrew Garcia – Straight Up by Paula Abdul
- Janelle Wheeler – American Boy by Estelle
- Didi Benami – Terrified by Kara
- Michael Lynche – Waiting on the World to Change by John Mayer (his wife was in labor with their first child)
And what about Ellen Degeneres as the new judge? She was actually pretty straight-forward and didn’t try to be funny the entire time. She told it like it was and I think she’s a great addition to the show. However, there are now rumours going around about Howard Stern replacing Simon next season. Stern? Really? In my opinion, he’s a little too raw for prime time. Isn’t American Idol considered a family show? If Stern joins the panel, my family won’t be watching anymore.

I loooooved the guy who did Straight Up! And I thought Ellen was terrific as a judge!

I am a HUGE AI fan. I love that show. Andrew is my fave so far. And I love Ellen as a judge. I don’t understand the whole group thing though. (even though I do love watching it) They don’t work in groups on the show, so I am not sure how it relates. And I think some people get a raw deal when they have to work with people that are not as committed. Here’s hoping we see a good season though.
I miss Paula.
