A Blast from the Past

I received an email from Facebook the other day saying that I had a friend request from someone I knew a long time ago. It seems like my ex-boyfriend from about 20 years ago found my profile. I have no idea how since I didn’t think he even knew my married name.

Turns out he got married 11 years ago and is now living in Las Vegas. He looks exactly the same as he did all those years ago and a flood of memories came rushing back, good and bad. And believe me, there were both. However, I look at him now and I am amazed at how people can grow and change. Reading his profile, I now see a responsible adult who just made a few unwise choices in his youth. After all, I’m sure we all have things we’d like to erase if we could.

I don’t think I’ll keep in touch with him but I am happy to know that he’s doing well. He was once an important part of my life and I wish him the best.

If you’re on Facebook, who’s the most surprising person you’ve found or who has found you?

An old boyfriend (from 20 years ago). Last person I ever thought I’d hear from. And I know what you mean. Exactly.

    I don’t do Facebook – too many ex-boyfriends! LOL

There are several friends that have found me, as well as one or two crushes. ;)

I was able to reconnect with friends from my childhood on FB, and I love it for that reason. :)

I only have a very restricted page with virtually no personal information on it. Why? I signed on on to help with NGOs and I really do not care to be in contact with anyone for my past.

I just started with FB, so I don’t know yet… but I see it coming. It is just so public… it would be nice to pick and choose who can find you, but on the other hand I think the surprises out of the blue would be fun.

It isn’t that I am surprised she found me, but surprised that she friended me. I call her “Crazy church lady.” We can barely be in the same things at church. Why would she friend me? Ugh! We’ve tried working things out with the pastor and our husbands, but she will NOT get there, and I am just done until she grows up.

It’s funny you mention it because I talked about that a little in my post today. I ran into two blasts from the past at the mall last week. As for facebook, I have connected with the only two people from my gr4aduatinfg class of 500 that I would veer have wanted to talk to again. One of them is even sending my kids little gifts for their trip to Disney in a few weeks.

I just recently signed up so most of my friends are real life or blogging buddies. I did look at my High School class and at my college class, but I haven’t friended any of those folks… including a former boyfriend.
To me that just isn’t where I wanted to go. I’m having so much fun with my current friends.

I should see if I can locate my Maid of Honor…I haven’t heard from her in years.

I have had 3 ex boyfriends find me on Facebook. 2 of them it isn’t a big deal because we found ways to be friends after the fact. It wasn’t a messy horrible weird thing. The other one did end up being weird and odd. Not horrible, but it is strange to hear from him now :S

I’ve found a bunch of people from my grade school (K-8) that I haven’t heard from, or even seen, in over 15 years. We’re even planning a reunion this summer.

Oh those surprises are something else aren’t they? I’d say the biggest surprise so far was my mother in law joining! LOL Although just catching up with so many old classmates has been so enjoyable for me. I wonder what I’d do if my ex-boyfriend found me there….hmmmmm

    Hugs,

I haven’t been “friended” by anyone unusual, but I was surprised that some people who were NEVER nice to me sent me friend requests!

What’s up with the HI-LV connection?! I got “friended” by a guy I hadn’t seen since we were 14 or so… he lived in Mililani then, he lives in Vegas now, too.

Hey Kailani, thanks for visiting me! It helps believe me.

I quit fb cause I was concerned w/ how much info is out there. I give stuff (info) away on my blog but it’s so much easier to be in control I think on that. And yes, the weird ones crawl out of the wood work & that’s all I’m gonna say! ha,ha

I found my half-nephew, who I hadn’t seen, talked to or heard from in over 20 years. Actually his mom (my half-sister) pretty much disowned our side of the family in general. It’s a little weird but also very cool to be back in touch with at least one person from that side. Found out I’ve got a couple of little great half-nieces (or would that be half great-nieces?) that I didn’t know about!

What is “freckled lemonade”? I saw this on Jen Wade’s blog and was wondering….

Hi Kailani, I read your blog every day, but I don’t comment very often. Since today is delurking day, I decided to stop by and answer your question. I guess the most surprising person to find me on facebook would be an old boyfriend from college who came out of the closet after we dated. :)

I have gotten in touch with a whole bunch of high school friends and it has been really fun!

  20. 20

A close friend back in elementary who I lost touch with. It’s nice to reconnect with her.

I haven’t found anyone surprising, but checking in with people from high school has been wonderful. It is good to know that people are doing well in their lives.

  22. 22

What a fun question. Facebook has been the strangest phenomenon to me. Besides ex boyfriends finding me, I’ve also had current wives of ex-boyfriends friend request me. Interesting.

I’ve had fun catching up with long ago friends, even from elementary. But I think my very favorite experience has been reconnecting with my jr. high/sr. high youth group friends! What a blast to reminisce about youth camp and choir tour! And since we had all just started a dating lives, it’s really fun to see them married and with kids of their own now!

That is a weird thing to have happen, I too was found by an old boyfriend. In a mall someone yelled out my maiden name. I was around 25 at the time. He had been looking for me from when I was 16 or 17. He tells me he had prayed he would someday fie me. I introduce him to my husband (then of 4-5 year of marriage).
He later tells me that God tells him my husband is gonna die and God has answered his prayer after all those years that we would again be together.
Needless to say I asked him to leave my home and never return. He later married a woman with two kids “because he realized he would have to settle because he would never have me”

    by by now
    never heard from him again.
Apparently I had made a lasting impression he never got over. :)

hmmm must be something in the air, I was just this past weekend, friended by an ex interest. It was probably the most shocking one I’ve had to date. The bad thing is he looks exactly the same…not fair!

I had an old boyfriend find me too. He is also married which is nice to see, but we haven’t talked in over 15 years, such a strange thing.
