What I Learned While On Vacation
Well, we’re finally back from vacation. We had such a wonderful and busy time and I have a mountain of dirty laundry to prove it!
For those who knew how much I was stressing about flying with the kids and wondered how it went, it wasn’t too bad. That is, if you don’t count the vomiting incident that Girlie Girl had (of course, it had to happen when I left to use the lavatory). Or when Baby Bug threw her french toast stick at another passenger’s head (boy, that girl has great aim). Or when the man in front of Baby Bug reclined his seat so far back that she kept trying to push it back up with her feet. *sigh*
But somehow we survived. And all my flight attendant friends on the flight thought the girls were so well-behaved. If only they knew.
Anyway, looking back on the past 10 days, I realized that I learned a lot of valuable lessons during our very first snow experience. For example:
- You cannot push a stroller in the snow. Carrying that stroller with Baby Bug in it – uphill – was not fun either.
- Your nose gets so cold that you can’t tell if it’s running.
- It takes so long to get everyone bundled up in their snow clothes. Of course, it’s inevitable that they want to come back in the house within 10 minutes.
- You can bury a bottle of Vitamin Water in the snow by your car and it will be perfectly chilled when you get back. Just don’t forget to mark where you put it.
- Falling while ice skating can really hurt.
- Ski Lodges are really hot! You go from 20 degrees outside to 100 degrees inside. Well, at least it felt that way to me.
All in all, we had a great time. It was wonderful to experience so many new things but the best time I had was just making a snowman in the backyard with the kids. That’s something I’ll always remember . . . and I hope they will, too.
BTW, for all of you who commented on DH’s exposed tootsies, I agree that he’s crazy. He’s always the one when the flight crew is huddling near the heaters while waiting for the hotel shuttle on layovers, he’s walking to the hotel without a jacket.

I agree with the ice skating thing. I fell once and had a huge blue mark on my thigh. It was really painful I wasn’t able to walk properly for a week.

Welcome Home! & LOL! about your learned things. what you didn’t say that after you get the kids bundled someone will have to go potty.
I don’t think that you need to be embarrased by what the kiddos did on the flight. GG couldn’t help getting sick and I agree with BB about the man reclining in front of her! how dare he!!! LOL and the french toast thing? well she was just trying to see how far it would go. lol
Glad you had a great trip.
re: DD skating… I would like her to just get good enough that she’s comfortable out there, but if she wants to go to the olympics, who am I to stop her.

Welcome back Kailani! It’s funny how we escape the snow/winter here to nice sunny locations, and you travel to snow/winter places.

I am so glad you got to experience a bit of Winter. We are still working on Spring here as there is still snow (very rare for this time of year, the last time was 1971). Dressing the kids has got to be the worst, you get used to just going out, then all of a sudden it takes 15 minutes just to get out the door. And all the kids love it, until they are tired of putting all the stuff on and schlepping themselves to school everyday. When Spring does finally come you feel 10lbs lighter.

Glad you landed and have tons of wonderful memories and pictures/videos of you adventure to remember forever.
I remember the kids and the snow when I lived in Alaska…it was like and hour of preperation to take the baby out, then you get to the destination, have to remove the snow suit so they didn’t die of heat.
Welcome home!
HaHa, I love your lessons. I’m glad that your trip was so memorable.

Glad to hear it was a great vacation! What I hate about kids + snow is the one snowflake that makes its way down into the child’s boot. It’s all over – back inside to redo the entire bundling up, and perhaps even a fresh pair of socks.

So many of the things you learned gave me a huge flashback to growing up in Idaho!! Glad you had a good time
you know, with all the advice that the people gave you before hand – nobody mentioned a stroller in snow! I had to laugh at the mental image even if it would not have been funny at the time!
Goodness, no! Strollers do not go through snow!

A few years ago we were returning home from Canadawhen my daughter woke up ill with a tummy flu She threw up before we left and I hoped that would be it, but no such luck….She threw up on the plane too… I felt sorry for the others (and for me…it was my hands she threw up into). Yikes!
Looks like you all had such a great time!
I would have loved to do the opposite and leave the snow for the sunshine!
