The Dad Who Took Out Elmo

Okay, he didn’t actually take out Elmo but he sure did destroy an Elmo balloon right in front of his 2 year old son. The way that little boy was hysterically crying, the Dad might as well have strangled Elmo with his bear hands.
Last week we had the opportunity to review the new Sesame Street Live! show (review to come) and had a great time except for the few crazy incidents that happened around us.
First, there was a Dad who bought his young son an Elmo balloon during the show’s intermission. Right before the show was to start up again, an announcement was made that anyone who purchased a balloon would need to keep it secured under their seats so it wouldn’t block the view of the stage. The usher had to tell this Dad 3 times to put the balloon away because his son was walking back and forth in the aisles with the Elmo balloon trailing along. By the forth time, the Dad grabbed the balloon and popped it right in the middle of the show. Everyone around us jumped at the loud noise and his son started screaming. He then demanded to get his money back for the balloon.
And if that’s wasn’t enough . . .
There was this lady who was sitting directly behind me who kept talking on her cell phone! I was getting so irritated that I finally had to turn around and ask her to take her call outside. She made a rude comment to me but eventually hung up.
There was also a kid about 3 rows behind me who kept screaming I WANT TO GO HOME!!! Did the parents even try to take him out to the lobby? Nope. He screamed occasionally throughout the show. What’s up with that?
However, the incident that blew my mind was seeing 2 Dads fighting in the lobby in front of everyone. I have no idea what the fight was about but, c’mon, we’re at a Sesame Street show! It may not be the “Happiest Place on Earth” but it should have been pretty darn close.
I wonder if these adults realize what kind of message they’re sending to their children?

Oh my! Sounds like some of the adults need to grow up. I have to admit the balloon thing bothers me for other reasons. I do NOT understand why kid shows sell them at intermission. The kids do not understand that they have to put them down and it just causes issues for the parents (not saying it should be popped).

I’m with Angel about the selling of the balloons at intermission. Perhaps there should be a sign posted where the balloons are sold to remind parents that they are not allowed in the theater. Of course I do believe that the father could have handled the situation better.
as for the other stuff I’m just appalled! The behavior of these parents is worse than the kids. Wow!

Sad, isn’t it? When I was younger, I always thought that grownups were supposed to be… grown up. In reality there is a good portion of them that are just overgrown teenagers. I just don’t get how adults can behave like that when the whole thing is about making our kids happy, and letting them enjoy a show. I wish those people would stay home:(

the balloons should not have gone on sale until after the show. Someone didn’t have their elmo hat on when planning that.
I’ve about lost my cool on more than one cell phone interupter. Why do people talk so loud ??

Oh my, it sounds like the adults were buckling under the pressure! Complicating by some silly balloons no less!

You can’t go anywhere “fun” anymore cause there is always some inconsiderate person or family to just make the trip bad!
