One Day Down, Ninteen To Go

After just 7 days of Kindergarten, today was the first day of Girlie Girl’s 3 week vacation. Can you believe that? And I have to tell you, I haven’t been looking forward to having her home for 20 days straight. What in the world are we going to do?

However, I have to admit that it was pretty nice to be able to sleep in a little since no one had to go anywhere this morning. After having breakfast, we spent about an hour doing some school work from her Brighter Minds Workbook. Thank goodness she really enjoys learning. In fact, she wanted to keep going till lunch!

The afternoon was spent making macadamia nut chocolate chip cookies, complete with a lesson in counting and measuring. The cookies were eaten during our summer backyard picnic.

Then the girls and I took a walk to a nearby park and spent the afternoon on the jungle gym and slides. Girlie Girl made a few new friends while Baby Bug and I flew a kite. Thank goodness for the trade winds – it was a very hot and humid day!

Finally, it was time to leave. On the walk home, Girlie Girl said, “Mommy, this is the most fun day I ever had.”

Maybe having her home for 3 weeks won’t be so bad after all.

What’s the most fun day you’ve had with your kids recently?

Sounds lie you had a wonderful day! Can you send some of those cookies my way?
Our fun day was Sunday, we went to my hubbys work picnic. They et up a little fair, with rides, and games, and food, and prizes…and it doesnt cost a penny. So they got to go on rides all day…and this year was great because i didnt have to lug around a diaper bag or a stroller..its nice to have hands free to hold their hands.

Awwww. I can just imagine you girls in the kitchen, making cookies, Baby Bug “helping” by being the taster. *grin*

It sounds like Girlie Girl is a very sociable young lady. And judging by her smile, she’ll be a good friend to have.

Ah, I remember the days when the boys liked learning. *sigh* I’d love to have those days back.

Oh you made my heart sing with that post! Of course you’ll enjoy it, even the down days where a movie is in order! But stop that, you’re making me look bad, packing so much into one day off, lol.

Don’t have a best day, have a best thing! My kids (even still my teens) enjoy going to the zoo with me. We have season passes, so we feel free to come for an hour or two or three and just ‘be’ with each other. Thanks for reminding me, it’s been awhile and I need to make a date now! xoxo

How cute! I love it when the kids make you feel good like that.
This morning we played with our Star Wars figures. Last night we all made cookies together and they loved that too. Anything I do with them makes them very happy.

Far too many to list! Which one should I mention I wonder? How about the most recent one?
My two boys each playing with a watering hose in the garden! May not be much of a feat for some children, but for mine = an absolute triumph.
    Best wishes

You must have been inspired by my recent post about creating memories for our kids. :)

    Am I right? hee hee.

Sounds like an absolutely FABULOUS day!

Awww, that was sweet! We love being together around here. We watched High School Musical last night and then today my daughter bought the soundtrack and we’ve had it playing loud all afternoon while we did our chores! We’re big goofs and it’s great!

I’ve been having mixed emotions about the kids going back to school. They’ve got 20 days left too.

Sounds like you girls had a really fun day! Cookies, picnic, and flying kites.

I can allready tell, I’ll be the soccer mom. Josh will be starting his sports games.
I’ve enjoyed going to Marissa’s concerts.
Katelyn with her dance recitals, and Lindsay, just watching her swim in the pool.

So far a perfectly fun day is kicking back with the whole family and watching my kids and my SIL’s kids all play together getting along. We’ll have a BBQ and just spend the whole day together. With everyone so busy, it’s nice to catch up with family.

wonderful post – so impressed by the sweetness and maturity of girly girl.

We had our 2 eldest grandkids for nearly 2 days in June. . . . and we had so much fun with them. I posted about it (They Walk on Water)

Hello, You’ll love it , you will.

Well dove and I went through her closet and tried on all her clothes, she said wow mom this is not so bad it is sorta fun. She told me about her little friends toys she had played with and shared a new interest in girlie things. it was fun. She is so sweet and I love to hear what she is thinking about.
I posted the answer to your question about her worried look.

Wow! Am sure you all had a fun time together. Girlie Girl is just soo sweet.

Had my share of 24-hr “mothering” with my son the past week for 5days straight! It’s pretty tiring but sooo sooo rewarding. Been reading and Sesame Street’s song every single day… and goofing around like silly with the tot. My rewards: getting licked, hugged and hearing Bah-bu (ilove you) from dear son.
When I got back to work, I caught myself singing to Sesame Street’s jingles every so often.

How do you have a week of school and three weeks off??

Sounds like you have the right idea though, getting out there and having some fun. I spent two weeks booking J’s schedule so solid and he had so much fun playing with friends, going to the farm, the indoor playplace, swimming. Now that I cooled off our bookings (getting to hard for me) he seems to be enjoying our own backyard and playing with random toys.

That scheduling is SO odd! But at least in Hawaii, the weather is relatively similar all year, right? (I remember waking up to rain nearly every morning, only to have it be clear and beautiful within a half an hour and nowhere NEAR as humid as it gets inland!)

Good for you! Kids need so little from us, really. Probably my best day recently was floating down a river on an innertube. It was 94 degrees and muggy – and it was a perfect way to do nothing as a family.

Wow, I loved hearing about your day! And goodness, even though she goes to Kindergarten, you were home schooling! :) The whole days sounds so fun…what a good mommy you are! :)

To be honest, we still have a full month before we start schooling full time and I am finding myself in need of fresh ideas. Today was our “No-TV Wednesday” so after VBS, they listened to story tapes for quiet time, played in our “deflated” pool…and did sidewalk chalk. I’m not overly creative this summer…so thankfully their swimming lessons start soon! :)

I have had so many fun days with Jayke lately. Monkey Joes, playing in the interactive fountain downtown, going out on the boat, and today we went to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. It was amazing and he had the best time. I love seeing him excited about things.

It seems so crazy to me how often breaks come up these days just after the kids get a good going start at school. What a tender and sweet day though! Great share mom. ;)

Oh, that’s so cute!! I said the same thing before school starts…”what am I going to do with 4 kids being home?” And not only 4 but 7. I don’t know how families with 7 kids feel, but I’m way overtired and overstretched these days.
