Developing Individual Style
I’m always so amazed at how I gave birth to two girls who have the same DNA and yet they’re so different from each other. Even though you try to raise them exactly the same way, their own personalities will eventually shine through. It’s such a great experience to see them become individuals.
For example, Girlie Girl is like me – girlie, sensitive, and independent. On the other hand, Baby Bug is like DH – playful, easy-going, and definitely a tomboy. She has no fear and can be found doing cannonballs off the living room couch. I’m really surprised she hasn’t broken anything yet.
Case in point, we recently had dinner at one of our favorite Japanese restaurants, Gyotaku. It’s always a big hit with the kids because they love the shrimp tempura and they also get to pick a toy from the toy basket. The basket contained lots of cool items for the girls – play jewelry, tiaras, make-up kits, little dolls, etc. Of course, Girlie Girl chose a make-up kit.
This is what Baby Bug picked:

See what I mean? She’s the son we’ll never have.
How are your children different from each other?

I LOVE her style!
My kids are really different, but are really close. My eldest eats like a bird, my youngest eats like a champ. Eldest is in the 90% and youngest is 50%. I don’t get it. Eldest is independent and could care less who is in the room, and the youngest is glued to me.
Of course my ears perked at the “free toy” at Gyotaku! Now we’re gonna have to take the kids there. Do you remember the treasure chest at the Ranch House? Sorry, rambling here… My daughter is total drama and sensitivity with everything and my son was more laid back and mellow. Unfortunately he has recently started copying sister and now follows her lead with the drama. Aack!
I’m always amazed at how different my girls are, as well. Em is laid back, takes her time getting the feel of things before jumping in. Has many fears, but thankfully showing signs of outgrowing most of them!
Livie, not afraid of much, just don’t mention spiders, flies or ants.
Loves to go fast, is a monkey & loves to stomp through mud puddles. And wants to be wearing a dress, while she’s doing it! lol
I love how different they are.
Oh my! You know, Baby Bug sure is the sweetest girl I’ve seen in a while!!!
my kid is just like both of us. LOL! There are times when DH & I both claim “That’s not MY child!” But honestly she’s him and she’s me. Currently she is as argumentative as I ever was…it seems everything I say has to be argued. sigh
My girls are incredibly different! One loves sports and animals and is fearless while the other is more into fashion and make-up and takes her time approaching new things. Not only are their personalities different, they LOOK completely different. The oldest has flaming red hair, pale skin and freckles while the little one has blonde hair and skin that will tan!
Yep, the have the same mom AND dad! LOL! Thankfully, I’ve only been asked once!
I have one child who is a rule follower and a pleaser, a disciplined person who gets the job done when it needs to be done. I have another child who is lax in his discipline, the king of procrastination, and a bender of all rules known to him. She is sweet and mannerly; he is a precocious imp.
I love watching my daughter’s personality emerge. I am sure it’s so neat to see two little one’s personalities develop.
My boys are best friends but totally different! Douglas is independent and serious and cautious while Jack is shy and playful and brave! Douglas takes pictures while Jack rides the roller coasters!
i dont have kids, but my one is individual enough. LMAO!

That is too cute! I love how they all have their own little personalities! Kids are the best:)
My oldest is not very competitve – he’s prone to be very polite… “Here, you have the ball, I had it last time…” Very considerate, kind and always thinking of others.
My middle child is fun loving and a bundle of energy. He loves to laugh and jump and play.
My youngest is competitive to a fault. EVERYTHING is a race. She is a natural athlete and loves to win. But she is compassionate and sweet too
Too cute! My boys are very opposite each other. My oldest is so laied back and easy going while the baby is really starting to show me he isn’t going to go with the flow. He is definatly more like me….
1st of all, she looks all grown up in this pic. Where are her pigtails????
My girls are TOTALLY different from each other!
she’s such a little cutie. and, yep, they all have their own personalities. i have one boy and one girl so the differences are obvious.
she looks a little older in this picture, I can just see the kolohe in her! LOL
All my kids are different too, I love each of their personalities.
I have to say her style is irrepressable. She shines!
What happened to your CommentLuv?
she’s the SUN, alright.
Oh yes, my three are so very completely different from each other. Although we do notice some similarities between Becca and each of her older sisters – she seems to be a decent mix of the two of them, with a heavy helping of her own little personality right on top.
What an adorable Bug she is, tomboy or not!
She’s SO cute!
My oldest has always loved dolls, my youngest can take ‘em or leave ‘em and is more into her stuffed animals. And though she loves a lot of girlie things, she also loves cars and trucks! (But so did I…I played with girlie toys and hotwheels as a child!)
It’s fun to see their differences sometimes!
My 350th giveaway ends tomorrow at noon, so hope you can drop by!
My son is a lot like me: sensitive, quiet, very in-tune with others’ feelings, and gets his own feelings hurt quite easily.
My daughter is a lot like my husband: full of energy (human tornado), loud, never stops moving or getting into mischief!
I, too am amazed at how different two siblings can be!
That’s funny that you post about this. I just talked to my friend about this yesterday. For us, Mr. Z is definitely a strong-will one. He will test his limit and beyond. Miss J is a sensitive one. She has free spirit.
My friend just gave me good advice that we can’t really use the same teaching or discipline since they are different. We just have to see which approach fit their personality best. Very true!!
I have 4. and they are all as different as can be. neither is like the other in any way. strange, very strange
Aww, what a cute story!
My oldest daughter rides horses and tries to be rough and tough. My middle one is a cheerleader, girly girl, carries a purse and likes perfume!
Holding out hope I get a girly girl out of the baby too!
lol. Nice facts. Just like what I am looking for.
