Back to Reality

After waiting 9 hours for a delivery room, going through 10 hours of labor, and pushing for 2 minutes Kaila was born on October 16th. The doctor finally decided to induce labor because my fluids were dangerously low. In fact, they had to pump liquid into the placenta during labor because the baby was pushing against some nerve endings. Ouch!
Luckily, I was able to get an epidural that actually worked this time and – OMG – thank heavens! I tell you, it’s a miracle drug! I thought my last 2 deliveries were easy but this one was also relatively pain-free.
After a few days in the hospital we returned back home and back to reality. I’m so glad to be able to sleep in my own comfortable bed but I definitely miss all the wonderful nurses that helped me recover, not to mention having someone hand deliver my meals every day.

Kacie loves having her new sister around and tries very hard to help whenever she can. Kiana on the other hand is having a harder time adjusting. She was a little surprised when we came home with Kaila. She thought that we were leaving Kaila at the hospital when we came home. It’s been a big adjustment for our family but we’re doing well overall. Nursing is going a lot better, she’s sleeping at least 2 hours at a time, and most importantly she’s healthy. She’s such a blessing.
How did your older children feel when you brought their younger siblings home from the hospital?

So far my daughter isn’t taking well to the idea of being a big sister. We’ll see how she takes the homecoming this spring.

Ouch to the pumping of fluids but man, it is awesome when the epidural works! Mine only worked w/ my daughter (2nd delivery).
My son actually wanted a little sister. He was 5 & had been asking us for little sis pretty much since he could talk. He didn’t get jealous until maybe a year or two later when she started to get into special toys in his room. After that it was easy but now that the Prince is in middle school he’s starting to be a stinker again! Amazing how it all comes around.
You look wonderful btw, & little Kaila is just adorable.

Congratulations, Kailani, she is BEAUTIFUL! When we had DS2, DS1 was only 18 months old. My MIL was concerned about how he would take it, so kept telling DS1 that we were bringing home HIS baby, his baby brother, etc. I remember a pediatrician told us not to leave them in a room together alone (due to sibling jealousy).
Both boys were older (5 and 6) by the time DD came along, and she was two months preemie. We would let them sit on the couch in NICU, prop them up with pillows and let them “hold” their sister…OMG they were so proud! DS1 even got lippy w/one of the nurses (angels in disguise) because she wouldn’t let him take HIS BABY SISTER home so he could take care of her! *ROFL*

I think what you’ve described is pretty normal for kids’ feelings about being an older sibling. BB has been the baby since she was born and now there’s someone else to fill that role…”how RUDE!”
I’ve got no hands on experience with this though.
I wanna know how you can look so great after just having a baby???

She is a beauty and you look totally awesome! So glad all went well.
I had only the two and Mandy thought I’d had the baby just for her. So it wasn’t a problem. Good luck with it though. MAybe spend some extra time just with her.

My son was overjoyed when I brought my daughter home. He wanted to help as much as he could. It was beautiful.
Then when she could walk and talk, the feelings changed slightly and he picked on her a little. Typical.
Good job on the new bundle of joy. She is beautiful.

What an angel!! And you certainly don’t look like someone who just had a baby!!
My son has been an amazing brother from the start. He’s actually nicer to his little sister than she is to him!
My father-in-law was about five when his younger brother was born, and he actually asked his parents to take the baby back to the hospital and get him a puppy instead!! LOL!

So glad that you are enjoying life at home. I’m sending you good thoughts for your recovery. Both kids did a really good job, when we brought Sawyer home. They’re naturals, I think. I just wish Sus was a little more gentle…

Congratulations! She is absolutely beautiful. My daughter was 10 yo when my son was born. She was excited to welcome her baby brother into the world and couldn’t wait to hold him once he was born. Now that she is a teenager, there are days she wants nothing to do with him.
Wishing you a picture perfect day!

What a beautiful, precious baby girl. Congratulations, again, on a safe delivery and healthy baby. My daughter was 3 years and 3 months when her brother was born. She was so, so happy to have a baby brother, and she was a tremendous help with him. She still is. She takes her role as big sister VERY seriously, and watches over him like a mother hen. There were times in the beginning that she felt “left out” or that maybe I loved him more than I did her; she’s not the attention hog or affection hound that he is, but we had a talk, and she grew to understand that even though I treat each of them as individuals and differently, that I love her just as much as I do him. Sometimes now, though, she has to remind him that I was HER mother before I was HIS mother. *grin*

Oh she is so precious, Kailani! I remember bringing Becca home almost 4 years ago now (wow). Abby did really well with her, but we decided to put Hannah in preschool halfway through the school year to give her something of her own to look forward to. She’s always been such a Mommy’s girl, so had a hard time with me having to spend so much time with Becca at first.
They’ve adjusted well over the years – and even though Hannah won’t admit it, she’s somewhat fond of her pesky little sister.
Congratulations again – she’s gorgeous!

Roo liked the concept of a little brother but she was pretty skeptical once Jasper was actually out of my belly. Especially because he was in the NICU for a week and I was worried and stayed in the hospital. I think she still holds it against him!

You look great and you;re both beautiful!
Hopefully Kiana will adjust quickly.
My older son adjusted pretty fast, there’s four years between them.
We only had one “moment”. When my older son had an accident of the #2 variety he told us his younger brother had gotten into his bed and done it. Mind you, my youngest was a few weeks at the time. We had such a hard time keeping a straight face!

Kailani you look so beautiful… congratulations on a healthy baby and a pretty uneventful delivery, I am so glad everything went well. I’m glad Kacie is being so wonderful, and I’m sure Kiana will grow accostomed to things as the days go by. I only had two children and they were 3 years apart, and the oldest did very well with the baby because I was able to be home with them both and I could give the older one my undivided attention when the baby was asleep. Then set he up with a project to do right before the baby woke up. Of course it didn’t ALWAYS work out perfectly
but my oldest was pretty easy-going.
I’m sure everything will work out wonderfully.

Must echo the sentiments of other commenters. You look GREAT. And the baby is beautiful. Kiana will learn to love her and never want to be away from her, with time, I’m sure. My boys are 4.5 years apart & we primed #1Son throughout the pregnancy to be the big brother — complete with t-shirt — and mommy’s helper. He got a little too ambitious sometimes and I had to keep an eye on him, but he was wonderful. It wasn’t until they were older and began fighting that we had any issues. Like tonight . . . (sigh). They are 22 and nearly 18. They fight and then I find them together, playing or talking. Typical brothers. Yours will be the same way eventually!

Congrats on a beautiful baby girl!! I love those cheeks.
My oldest daughter was 5 years old when my so was born, she has never adjusted to him…too long being an only child.
So very beautiful! Congratulationis!
I’ve never had any problems inroducing a new sibling. Especially this last time when my the boys were 17, 13, and 4 and I was bringing home their baby sister. They jumped right in and, 9 months later, she’s spoiled by EVERYONE – not just mom and dad.

The little ones are always so funny. I remember when my kids were little and my dear friend had a baby boy we went to see. His sister wasn’t three yet – and she wanted her mom to put the baby out on the porch for the night — like they did the dog.
Conversation from June when baby Ellie was born and she came home from the hospital:
4-year old grandson Z-bubb: Daddy, why did you bring her here?
Daddy: Because she lives here.
Z-bubb: Oh, Daddy! Don’t be silly.

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE BOTH SO BEAUTIFUL!
At first, our oldest daughter was a bit disappointed because she definitely wanted a sister, NOT a brother, but she adjusted and became the doting big sister! And then. . . she got another brother!
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR GROWING FAMILY!!!

She is so sweet looking. I LOVE her Zutano Homecoming outfit! My daughter was helpful when we brought home our little guy but at the same time she wanted more and more of our attention. If we went awww… look at Collin, she’d go, Mommy look at me, look at me! After 18m she still does that, but LOVES her little brother!
