Where Did She Go?
Today I went shopping at the Aloha Tower Marketplace for a birthday dress for Baby Bug.
As I was walking around, I came up to the famous clock tower that greets cruise ship passengers as they dock into Honolulu Harbor. I thought it would be the perfect shot for my Project 365. I grabbed my camera from the stroller, aimed straight up, and snapped the photo.
When I looked down again, the stroller was gone! OMG! The things that go through your mind when you’re in a state of panic. I frantically looked all around. Then I saw it . . . the stroller was about 50 feet away, just sitting in the middle of a courtyard. Baby Bug was still happily drinking her bottle, unaware of the chaos around her.
I didn’t realize I was standing on a gradual hill and I guess I didn’t push down on the break hard enough. The people around were laughing hysterically. Why the heck didn’t anyone try to stop her, or at the very least yell a warning to me? Thank goodness she was okay! You can be sure I’m double checking that break from now on!
Have you ever done something like this? Please say “yes” so I’ll feel better!
Anyway, here’s the shot that wasn’t worth the anxiety.

- Sunflower only has a few hours left here. Please stop by and wish her a fond Aloha by clicking on her thumbnail in the sidebar! She was such a great roomie this week! I know a lot of you are probably tired of snow by now but that photo she has posted is absolutely beautiful. Looks like something out of a movie!

Whew, that could have been a disaster. You need a leash on the stroller
Our future roller derby queen… I just feel it in my bones.. ha ha
[...] After all the shopping, and my close call, we decided to have lunch at the Aloha Tower Marketplace. This is the view we had of Honolulu Harbor. [...]
I’m glad that all is well…whew that was scary!
BTW – I love everything about Hawaii! And I know exactly where that tower is. Before the kids came along my husband and I vacationed in Hawaii every year for 7 years in a row….and I really really miss it.
Oh wow! How scary, even it for a split second!!!!
But BEAUTIFUL shot.
Wow, luckily Baby Bug had no idea what was going on and was happily in her stroller!!! Someone could have at least told you though. Glad to hear everything is okay though! It is a very pretty picture!
omg how scary
Happy Birthday to Baby Bug. I’m glad it all turned out ok. I would’ve freaked too. I also would’ve run to stop the stroller if I had seen it. People are so odd.
Aloha! We’re leaving in a few hours. I’m so excited!
I have had a wayward stroller a time or two. Don’t feel bad. Is it me or what. I can’t seem to find your blog roomie in your sidebar. What heading is it under? I see nothing.
Wow, I can’t believe that nobody said a word or yelled out. Thankfully Baby Bug is fine and no mishaps occured. I did have something similar happen. It was in my driveway though. I had put the break on the stroller after going for a walk with out two dogs so I could open the garage. I turned around to see J sitting at the end of the driveway, almost on the road crying at me! I am very careful with the break now.
So much to see there, I dont remember that clock tower. And at least the stroller things did not become a superman episode.
My theory: Baby Bug undid the brake and took the stroller for a joy ride. If she does this now, imagine what she’s going to do when she’s a teenager.
I’d say “hide the car keys,” but by then, she’ll have mastered the art of hot-wiring!
Of course, these are the same people who allowed you to struggle to your car trying to manage upteem bags of kettle corn and Baby Bug. Sheesh!
Yeah, I LOVE people who laugh at me at my expense, scarcely aware that they are showing their own rudeness and immaturity.
So glad Baby Bug is okay; now go get a leash for that stroller!
OMG, I can imagine how you felt, poor you! how nice that nothing happened and that your baby didn’t notice anything!
Great shot, and I would have been so panicked! I can’t believe anyone didn’t say “excuse me, is that your runaway stroller?” or anything. So glad she was all right. Hope that brake works better next time
I would have totally panicked too! I can’t believe people don’t help other people anymore! It’s so ridiculous!
I’m so glad that the story had a happy ending! Great picture.
YIKES! Nothing like a missing baby to get your heart a pounding;))
Very cool pic! How unbelievably rude that no one brought the stroller back to you or at least yelled that it was rolling.
I would have been panicky too! Glad all is OK!
You did get a great shot. I love seeing all your pics of Hawaii.
psssst…tagged you for a Thinking Meme!
Oh. my. heck. that would have totally freaked me out. I’ve never done that, but once I put Kathryn in the stroller and it hadn’t locked into place yet. It started to fold up, with her still inside. That kind of freaked me out, good thing I was right there and I could get it opened quickly.
The picture is really neat, though not worth the scare.
I think we’ve all had our moments like that. I still think it was rude for no one to help you. Would they have still been laughing if the stroller had tipped? >:(
hugs
Yes that kind of thing has happened here too! I can’t believe no one alerted you!
O.K., that would completely freak me out. I’ve never had anything like that happen; however, I did watch my next-door-neighbors’ car roll out of their driveway and under the fence behind it.
** I hope no one was hurt! That could have been a disaster!
I have done things like this! You lose your mind a little in that moment. My son climbed out of the stroller and almost fell. SO scarey. Great photo though!!!
** In fact, just today at the shopping mall, I saw a stroller tip over with the child still inside! Scary!
Great shot but I totaly agree, not worth the anxiety. I’ve done so many stupid and embarrassing things that I’ve blogged about.
I guess the one that I can think of that is similar to this but much worse is when one of our kids got lost in Disneyworld Epcot Center. She was in a snit because we said no to a certain attraction because we were trying to get over to another popular attraction while it was earlier and not too crowded and we told her we would come back to the one she wanted later. She was about 5 or 6 and very rebellious and took off on us because she was so mad. Needless to say we lost alot of time and incurred endless grief looking for her. After that I started using wrist straps around her and me so I would not lose her. LOL
** That is one of my worst fears . . . losing my child in an amusement park. I can’t even imagine what you went through! Glad it all turned out okay in the end.
I can’t believe no one stopped her or at least drew attention to the fact that she was rolling away. I can only imagine how scared you were when you looked down and saw she wasn’t there.
The photo, though, is terrific! That’s a really great perspective.
[...] Child and Family Safety One of the biggest fears every parent has is to turn around and their child not be there. Local Girl tells about her experience which thankfully turned out ok in Where Did She Go? posted at An Island Life. [...]
Never had a stroller incident (*sending hugs to make you feel better*) BUT, did have a store buggy incident…
I was in the Dollar Tree buying stuff to fill goodie bags for the girls class at halloween time. I always put one of the girls in the back of the buggy and one in the front seat. Well, I turned around for ONE split second to grab something off the shelf and BAM BANG KABOOOM! I hear both girls giggling and the store lady is like OMG ARE THEY OKAY? I turned around and looked and they had overturned the buggy and half of the merchandise that was on the closest shelf to them! They didnt get hurt, but it definetely taught me that I shouldnt turn my back on them in a store!!!!!
I am so glad that baby bug is okay! It really sucks that people dont have the courtesy to help one another anymore
OMG! That was a close call. Too close for comfort. I can only imagine the horror you must have felt when you realized the stroller was not there. It would have taken me at least the rest of the day to recover from that one. Great shot indeed, but certainly not worth the nerve-wrecking experience!
Wow, that would have been so nerve wracking. Glad to hear it turned out ok.
