Keep The Noise Down

On my last flight home I was working in First Class (FC) when these 4 guys came on the plane. From the very beginning I could tell that they may cause a problem because they were being a little loud. Not unruly or drunk loud but a more “having too much fun” loud.

Everything was fine until about an hour before landing. Throughout the flight they were drinking bloody marys and being content with watching the movies. However, once the movies were done they stood up (even though the fasten seat belts signs were on) and started loitering in the aisles and talking/laughing louder and louder. The other passengers were starting to get upset including New York Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas who was also sitting in FC.

The other flight attendant working in FC with me kept telling them nicely to keep it down but they just ignored her.  Finally, I had to step in.

Me: Hey guys, could you please keep the noise down? The other passengers are starting to get upset.
Guy #1: (getting right up in my face) And your point is?
Me: My point is that you’re not the only person on the plane so sit down and be quiet! (hoping he wasn’t the type of guy to hit a girl)
Guy #1: (taking another step towards me) OOOoooOOOooo, Kailani said we have to be quiet.
Me: Are we going to have a problem here? If so, I could have Security meet the plane when we land.
Guy #2: (pushing Guy #1 away from me) No, there’s no problem. We’ll make sure he behaves.

Throughout the rest of the flight, Guy #1 kept giving me the eye whenever I walked by. And just to irritate him more, I made sure I walked by every chance I got. ;-)

Go Kailani! Sounds like you got Guy #2 to be smart enough to keep the other guy in check. Thank goodness they understood the threat of security and called it a day.

When Hubby was still flying, the FA would come and get him. All 6 feet 4 of him intimidated most of the jerks! But, Security will do it too! LOL!

Haha! I love reading your stories about work. I’m glad things didn’t get out of control, though – and that his buddy was with it enough to straighten him up! Way to keep those guys in line!

I love that you actually have a plausible threat! Too bad teachers don’t have something like this… especially in the upper grades!

Well done for standing up to him, people like this will continue to be antisocial until they see that others wont stand for it. I hate it when there is a loud person on a flight – I like using the time to relax rather than being disturbed!

Good for you Kailani, don’t take crap from anyone! I’m sure the football player would not have let that guy hurt you. In today’s era of flight, I still cannot imagine anyone acting like that on an airplane. I’m sure he would have been arrested on the ground if you called – and rightly so! I am one of those people who do exactly what I’m told by TSA, the flight crew and anyone in a uniform in an airport or on a plane!

Hi, Kailani, and thanks for the regular postings on your work as a flight attendant. I am a coward about flying personally, but it is fun to read your tales.

What is your theory on why it seems so many people leave their brains or manners on the ground?!

Also, my grandfather always used to say “you say drunk what you want to say sober,” so my bet is that in this case Guy #1 was an arse even before the bloody Marys.

Thanks again for sharing; your life could be a book for sure!
