The Joobles by Fair Indigo
This giveaway is now closed. Thank you for your participation.
The winner is Janet.
Congratulations!

Can a baby’s toy make much of a difference in a world of global warming and economic recession? Of course, say the founders of Fair Indigo, a company where gifts have a purpose. Meet Mel the Monkey and Icy the Penguin, two of the Joobles, a new line of incredibly soft knit stuffed characters made for cuddling.
Joobles are precious playmates from Peru where artisans have hand crafted a menagerie of animals under fair trade conditions, providing work and hope to hundreds of rural and urban Peruvians. That’s why their tagline is Responsible, Sustainable, Adorable™.
Each incredibly soft animal is made with eco-friendly dyes and organic cotton grown in Peru. Calley the Cat stands 11” tall (as all the friends do) with adorable whiskers and a huggable green and yellow body. For parents hunting for eco-friendly toys, all of the Joobles are made with cotton grown without the use of pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or other chemicals. Eliminating these chemicals is not only better for baby, but also for workers and for the environment.
“Equally important, we pay fair wages to the good people who make our clothes and accessories instead of the minimum wages that are often the norm today,” explains Robert Behnke, Co-founder and Vice President, Merchandising for Fair Indigo.
There are 9 Joobles filled with personality and promise: Bella the Bunny, Buzzy Bug, Calley the Cat, Fair Bear, Icy the Penguin, Jiffy the Giraffe, Mel the Monkey, Mooey Cow and Pip the Dog.
We received Buzzy Bug to review and I have to say how impressed I was with the colors and quality. You can tell a lot of pride went into making sure that every child would carry around their stuffed pet with pride. The soft materials used to make Buzzy and all his friends is what makes them so cuddly and squeezable. Perfect for keeping kids cozy in bed.
As soon as Buzzy arrived at our home, Baby Bug immediate adopted him as hers. He’s the perfect size for her to carry around and they’ve been inseperable ever since.
Retailing for just $29 each, Joobles can be found online at www.fairindigo.com or at specialty e-tailers like Oompa.com. Visit Fair Indigo’s website to see detailed images of each animal. The colorful characters range from turquoise to celery green.
Where do Joobles come from? Started by a Peruvian family — a mom, a dad, and their daughter — this company provides work and hope to hundreds of rural and urban Peruvians all over the country. Small groups of impoverished workers are trained to run their own small businesses making hand-knit clothing and accessories. In addition to providing much needed employment, they train workers throughout Peru in such valuable skills as quality control and production planning. Fair Indigo also works with this company’s charitable arm by donating free breakfasts and school supplies to children of the workers.
Parents who have shopped for organic toys will appreciate the value of Joobles. Other pricier knit toys not only cost more, but are often made of acrylic yarn and not made under fair trade conditions. Joobles are not only 100% adorable but will improve our planet for the next generation by supporting small sustainable farming and fair trade. Isn’t it amazing how the right toy can make a difference?

Fair Indigo uses a concept called “Fair Trade”.
which is quite simply:
Fair Trade means that producers are paid fair prices for the products they produce, instead of the minimum prices that the marketplace will allow, as is the case in the mainstream market today.
I like Icy The Penguin
I’m already a subscriber.
I’m surprised at how small the Fair Trade market is in the US, and that American Apparel is the only major brand selling “sweatshop–free” clothing here.
Kudos to Fair Indigo!
I subscribe
And I have your button.
I would love Buzzy Bug and I also really like Icy the Penguin. Fair Trade fair pay for the work that is done so families don’t have to live in poverty.

Fair trade means fair wages to the people who make our clothes and accessories and foods instead of the minimum wages that dominate the clothing market today.

I found this:
Quite simply, we pay fair wages to the good people who make our clothes and accessories instead of the minimum wages that dominate the clothing market today.
Sounds like a great company.

Fair Indigo is a great company that is trying to make more people aware of Fair Trade, paying people a fair wage for their services. Love it.

Pip the dog for my little boy who love woofs woofs.
I like Jiffy the Giraffe the best.
Fair Indigo goes beyond minimum wage requirements and looks at what would constitute a “living wage.” I think that’s an important distinction. I am impressed that Fair Indigo lists out the questions they asked and the process they went through to determine what they would consider “fair trade,” and I think they have a good handle on it. They have lovely things, and I can feel good about anything I purchase there.
I am a happy subscriber.
I love Icy the Penguin! Ever since club Penguin my kids have loved everything penguin!
I like icy the penguin.
I like Calley the Cat.
Mooey Cow is the best.

Icy the penguin is cool.
I am glad fair trade pays living wages.
Fair Trade is really abt paying fair wages. Its always so nice to see people caring abt other people. Calley the Cat is the cutest! Such personality.
Also a subscriber.
they pay fair wages not the minimum wage
just wages
Tough choice. They are all so cute. I guess I will go with Icy Penguin.
the term means that the people who work so hard to make our stuff get paid a fair price for their hard work and time! some countries dont pay the wages that are deserved of the workers and that is not fair!
we should care because we should treat others the wat we want to be treated ourselves, the golden rule, hello? would you want to get paid pennies for something you spent all day on? I dont think so!
I subscribe!
I would pick Calley the Cat.
I love mooey.
Fair Indigo is donating 5% of its profits to the Foundation to support its educational projects & programs
With the exception of Fair Indigo, teen retailer American Apparel is the only major brand selling “sweatshop–free” clothing in the United States.
Fair trade is really important so that the workers are treated fairly and it’s always good to know the product isn’t made in a terrible sweat shop. Thanks for the chance.
I also subscribe via google reader.
It’s simple- fair trade means that they pay fair wages- simple concept but one that has yet to catch on in a big way here- kudos to this company!
Also- I’m a subscriber!

I thought it was great how careful fair indigo is to make sure that the people who are making the items are actually getting a fair wage by visiting the factories regularly.

Simply adorable!
I can’t believe this is true. American Apparel is the only one selling teen clothes that is sweat-shop free other than Free Trade. That is amazing and sad.
They pay fair wages to the good people who make our clothes and accessories instead of the minimum wages that dominate the clothing market today. Such an excellent concept and I believe people should be protected against companies who will try to make honest people work in a sweata shop enviroment!

Indigo pays fair wages instead of minimum wage, and with these particular toys (which have such an in-depth feel but are still SO cute!) I like it that they also teach families to have their own businesses!
Since the kids kids love anything monkey… I would have to go with Mel!
I like that this is a sweatshop free product. I really like Jiffy the Giraffe. Thanks!
Fair Trade is about laborers getting paid fair wages instead of minimum wages like most employers pay.

Buzzy Bug is my favorite Jooble – I like the colors and her expression.
Manufactured goods like clothing are much more complicated because components often come from literally dozens of sources. I had no idea that it was so complicated but it makes sense. I think I will buy callee the cat for my little one.
fair trade means fair wages, not minimum wages

Fair Trade is very important because Americans must be discriminating consumers…and we must refuse to purchase items where employees are NOT compensated fairly for the work they do for their employers. Thanks for spreading awareness and for a great giveaway!
I subscribe to Island Life through Bloglines.
i like the cow. so cute!
The “fair trade” concept is one I haven’t heard of before this blog entry. I am in favor of companies doing everything they can to offer workers a fair wage for their work. It is a good thing when people can actually earn a LIVING doing a job instead of less than a living. I am impressed with Fair Indigo.
If I won, any of these little critters would be great…I think Pip, Icy and Buzzy are my favorites though!

would have to go for icy the penguin
Fair Trade pays actual living wages towards workers as opposed to major corporations paying the absolute minimum (or even less than that) to make an even bigger profit.
Fair trade got its start in Europe and its purpose is to pay better than minimum wage to workers for the exceptional craftsmenship that most all of them are providing.
