“I Love You” - Here’s an Iron to Prove it!

April 19, 2008

And it wasn’t even one of those fancy Rowenta-type irons either. It was your basic cheapo iron that can be purchased for $9.99 at any WalMart or Target. To make matters worse, it was a Valentine’s Day gift! Needless to say, the relationship didn’t last very long so I never had the chance to ask WHY? Did he think my clothes were wrinkled? Did he want me to iron his shirts? Who knows?

Forward 20 years to the present and check out the cool gift I received from DH this week for no special reason.

Ta-Da!

I recently purchased a Canon Rebel XTi but have still to figure out how to use it out of automatic mode. Because of this, I haven’t been taking as much pictures with it. DH decided to get me this Sony Cybershot (in my favorite color) especially since I loved using it at Girlie Girl’s school. And no - this is not the missing camera! Their’s wasn’t pink! hee hee

What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever received?

My worst gift, at least the one that sticks in my memory, is the year my husband bought me a battery recharger for Christmas with a bunch of rechargeable batteries. It just didn’t strike me as the kind of personal item that I was looking for.

The best gift was also from my husband. When he bought me the complete collection of Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman shows. My favorite TV shows from childhood.

I got coasters once for Valentine’s Day. That relationship didn’t last long.

DH gave me a tree for our first married Valentine’s Day. It sounds weird, but he knew I loved that kind of tree (actually, it was kukui). For our second Valentine’s Day, he bought me kukui oil. It’s really cute.

Anytime he wants to buy me a camera, I’m game! You must have a sweet DH!

The worst gift I’ve ever gotten was actually from my hubby’s aunt… it was for our wedding and she got us this hideous poofy fabric covered scrapbook album with lace around the edge. The fabric was even a mauve floral print. Very 80’s style. Of course we thanked her for it since we opened it at the rehearsal dinner… and it promptly went in the next garage sale. Ugh!

Oh my that was aweful! I told DH who was then only a boyfriend that under threat of death, he was to NEVER EVER buy me a gift that had an electrical cord attached to it! And he has been very good about that…even to the point of when I told DD to get me a mini-crockpot he didn’t want to let her get it…even though she told him and showed him my list that said I wanted it. He finally sighed and said that he would take no responsiblilty for it. LOL! I did want it and I love it.
Does that mean that DH has always bought me great gifts??? um NO! When it comes to getting lousy gifts, DH takes the cake! This is usually when he’s left to his own devices…but if I tell him what I want he does a good job of getting it.

When I was first dating my husband, he bought me this wool french style hat, and it was magenta. This is a color that I refuse to wear because my grandmother is always wearing purple and pink, and I now have a slight aversion to it. The best was probably the random roses, and the reese pieces and fresh blackberries he brought me when he picked me up from the airport (I had been out of the country for two months)

Cool, that’s a great camera. :D

I’m not sure what my best/worst gift is. I haven’t received many, but yeah, I’m sure I had them. :D

But an iron? that’s classic!

Best is a tie - a video camera (Christmas 2006) and a fancy, new digital camera this past Valentine’s Day. The worst was a vacuum cleaner!

oh gosh my worst gift was a valentines day gift from my ex boyfriend. He had asked me what flowers I liked most like a week before and I said red roses and daisies. Well on valentines day I could not believe it! He bought me fake red roses and daisies and they weren’t even remotly good silk ones. They were AWEFUL! I mean really aweful complete with plastic babies breath. I started laughing because I seriously thought it was a joke! I said outloud “funny joke” but I was really kind of confused and completely shocked! It was no joke!! He was upset and I felt really bad but I still don’t understand it. We broke up years later… maybe I should have seen that as some kind of sign!

My best gift was my acoustic guitar my dad gave me last Christmas.

Very cute camera. I’ve been thinking about getting a new one to take to Spain so I’m on camera high alert at the moment.

The best gift I’ve ever received was probably the spectacular 1.2 carat white gold diamond ring I received from my hubby last birthday. It’s gorgeous and was long overdue. He told me he was going to buy it for my son’s birth, but it took an extra 3.5 years to actually arrive. Better late than never though, right.

And no I don’t get gifts like this all the time. This is only the second piece of expensive jewellery he’s bought me in almost 12 years, the first being my wedding ring.

The worst present I have ever been given was a sex toy by a new boyfriend. It was so out of context with our relationship and presumptuous that I dumped him the next day. My skin still crawls thinking about it. If you think I’m joking, sadly I’m not. Yuck. Double yuck.

Cheers
Kelly

When daughter #2 was born, I was very anti-mini van. I needed a new vehicle, but was pushing for an SUV. I went out of town to visit MIL. When DH picked me up at the airport, we got into a brand spanking new Nissan Quest. He had researched, test driven, etc to see how I would like it. He was absolutely right! I love it. One of the best gifts because I didn’t know I wanted it!

But the list could go on - for my birthday last week, he bought me a Roomba. Didn’t know I wanted it either, but it’s pretty friggin’ cool.

My mother in law’s gifts were so notorious that people at work couldn’t wait for Christmas or my birthday to hear what hideous thing she bought me that year. (My old boss is retired and STILL emails me for the dirt!)

I’d say the worst gift she gave me over the years which immediately went into the trash was a combo of a plaster toucan pin with some kind of blood stain on the back and a pair of used GLASS earrings. Not to be graphic but I knew they were used b/c there was ear crud on the posts. I thought I was going to retch. As you can tell, she obviously thought highly of me. *rolling eyes*

Sorry I was so traumatized by her gift recollection I forgot to list my best gift. The best gift was a diamond and gold plumeria necklace and earring set my husband surprised me with on Kauai.
