Blogger of the Week – The Mommy-Files

This week’s featured blogger is Shannon from The Mommy-Files.

Tell me a little about yourself and your blog.

I am a stay-at-home mom of 3 boys in Seattle, Washington.  I was the oldest of 3 girls, so raising boys is completely different for me.  I LOVE chocolate and love baking, scrapbooking, and watching movies.  I also LOVE to blog and do reviews and giveaways.  I have met so many people through blogging, as well as awesome companies and products.  In November, my husband and I will celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary!  I also have my degree in Family Science, as I was hoping to get a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.  I’m not sure if I still want to do that, but I know that someday I want to go back and get a Master’s degree.

How do you think your sons would describe you?

Mom who loves to give us chocolate, reading to us, playing games with us, and watching movies with us.  Mom who likes us to share and not fight.

What’s your favorite product that you’ve reviewed and why?  What would your kids’ picks be?

I love the FLIP Camera.  I use it everywhere I go and it’s one of my favorites.  My kids love the Disney DVDs (and so do I actually).

Blogging conferences can get expensive; you already have your ticket to BlogHer ‘10, thanks to a wonderful sponsor.  What advice do you have for bloggers looking for sponsorship?

Write to sponsors and companies you’ve worked with and have a relationship with.  Let them know that you are planning on attending and are looking for financial sponsorships.  Know what you want.  Sometimes companies will ask you to do a lot in return for a little.  Don’t feel bad saying no.

What do you find to be the hardest thing about blogging?  And the most rewarding?

The hardest thing about blogging is not doing it.  I love to blog and know how my friends are doing.  The most rewarding is when people tell me they love my blog and when someone wins a giveaway that was really wanting it or needing it.  I select all of my winners through random.org so it’s exciting when it’s someone who visits my blog all the time.  I also love trying out new products and working with PR companies!  There are some really great reps and companies out there.

What do you like to do in your free time, when you’re not behind a computer or chasing after your boys?

I love to watch movies (complete with popcorn and chocolate – lol).  I also love to bake, scrapbook, and play games with my family.  Road trips and family drives are fun also, especially when the kiddos fall asleep.
