Shopping for Valentine’s Day

Once a week Kacie takes piano at a music school in a local shopping center. It’s only 30 minutes long but it’s just enough time to make a quick stop at Starbucks and see what’s new at the stores without going on a full-blown shopping spree. And with Valentine’s Day coming up, I’m making my wish list just in case Hubby asks me what I want. Hey, anything to make his life easier, right?
The funny thing is that when he can’t think of what to get for me he always picks out a blouse from Macy’s. Unfortunately, we have very different tastes. If left up to his own he would probably pick out something like this:
When I would prefer something more like this:
I appreciate his efforts but I’m always too lazy to return it for something else. So I’ve taken to showing my daughters the outfit I want so they can point it out to him if the opportunity arises. He has no idea what’s going on.
As for him, even though he already has about 20 different pairs, he wants some new men’s flip flops (or slippers). His favorite brand is Reef because of their style and comfort so I thought this would be the perfect choice for him.
But then again, maybe I should just ask the kids what they think. Maybe he’s been whispering in their ears, too.
What do you want for Valentine’s Day?
The Things We All Do

Thanks to Pinterest I’ve found the most hilarious website called The Things We All Do.
I was sitting in the airport holding area waiting to board my flight and I made the mistake of reading some of the site’s entries. The next thing I know I’m laughing out loud hysterically to the point of tears. Of course, this elicited some very strange stares from the passengers around me who were probably hoping I was of sound mind being that I’d be working their flight.
It’s basically a site where people submit quotes and random thoughts from their everyday life. Here are some of my favorites:
- I text my friends when I’m at their house instead of knocking.
- I iron my shirt with the blow dryer because I’m lazy.
- Walking around like your nails are made of glass after you paint them.
- Posing for 10 seconds while taking a picture then finally realizing it’s on video.
- I type out my whole sentence, then look up at my computer screen and realize I wasn’t typing.
- I’m scared to close my eyes in the shower because when I open them, I don’t want a killer to be standing there.
- When I see “Friend is typing . . . “, I stop typing.
Go check out the site and let me know which quotes you can relate to!
Addicted to Pinterest

When I first heard about Pinterest late last year I resisted the urge to sign-up. After all, I just couldn’t see myself spending more time on just another social media platform. But then I began to hear so many of my blogging friends raving about the site that I decided to check it out.
O.M.G. I’m so addicted.
Now I’m on Pinterest every single day . . . when I wake up in the morning, waiting for the kids after school, on my layovers, and basically whenever I have a little downtime. (view my Pinterest boards here)
But what is Pinterest?
It’s a social networking site where you create various boards and “pin” photos and videos to them. These pins will then be shown on the Pinterest home page where other members can “repin” them to their boards, click the “like” button, and/or leave comments. The photos that attract the most activity will then be displayed in the Popular category page. You can also browse pins through a list of specific categories.
I’ve been seriously active on Pinterest for only about a couple of weeks now but I’ve learned a lot in this short period of time.
- Be social – Repinning and commenting on other people’s pins will encourage interaction and foster new relationships.
- Follow others – The more people you follow the more pins you’ll be able to enjoy.
- Be organized – An organized board is a lot more appealing and easier for other people to follow.
- Go mobile – Pinterest recently released an application available in iTunes. Makes pinning on-the-go a breeze.
- Give credit where credit is due – It’s so easy to pin a photo you came across while doing a web search. However, it’s good etiquette to find out the source of the photo and have your pin link back to them. This way people can go to the source for more detailed information.
What I really like about Pinterest is that I’ve come across so many great ideas that I would have never found on my own – ideas for kids goody bags, teacher gifts, beauty tips, recipes and much more. Now I have them all in one organized place for easy reference. I’ve also made friendships with other bloggers who I’ve discovered have the same tastes as me – whether it be fashion, home decor, or hobbies. Plus, Pinterest is just so pretty and glossy. All those beautiful photos make me feel like I’m walking through a museum.
So if you see less of me on Facebook and Twitter chances are you’ll find me browsing through Pinterest. It’s my newest addiction.
Are you on Pinterest? What do you like about it?

As the last hours of 2011 start to tick away, I wanted to thank all my blogging friends and generous sponsors for such an amazing year. Who would have thought that a simple Mom living out in the middle of nowhere could turn a blog into an experience of a lifetime.
I’ve met some awesome women from all over the world who I am proud to call my friends. I’ve watched their kids (and grandkids) grow up through the years, cried with them through happy and sad times, talked and laughed until the wee hours of the morning while rooming together at conferences, and even shared some secrets. Thank you for being the wonderful women you are.
I’d also like to say a big MAHALO to all the companies I’ve had the honor of working with this year. Thanks to you I was able to take my family on an amazing day-cation, encourage self-esteem in my daughters, be a national spokesperson for a major brand, see my face in People Magazine, and even help a local family in need. Big or small I appreciate every single sponsor who has taken a chance on me and helped me get to where I am today.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful New Year’s celebration filled with love and laughter. See you in 2012! It’s going to be an amazing year!
