Yahoo vs. Gmail

March 12, 2008

Is anyone else having problems with Yahoo! lately? It seems to be running really slow if even at all. I’ve also noticed that a lot of my emails are going to people’s spam/bulk folders. Yikes! I’m bummed that people might think I’m not responding to their inquiries.

I’ve been thinking about switching my email account to Gmail but heard that you can’t insert an image into your signature. Is that true?

What email account do you use? Are you happy with it?

apparently you can’t put an image in your signature. it looks like you can’t do any HTML in it. which is a good thing, since there are so many issues with that.

but i\’m not a fan of yahoo mail personally. I\’ve never liked their methods. but gmail i use religiously.

Gmail only allows plain text in it’s signatures. Even though, I am still a die hard gmail fan. I love it.

I’ve just started using Gmail and would recomment it. A friend of mine runs several blogs and internet companies and runs all his emal through Gmail, so I think it’s the one to go with. As their accounts are free you could try one out. In fact I have two under different names!

I have a gmail and an aol account. AOL is free now… I used to have a signature on aol… but I haven’t messed with it for a long time. I have no idea…

I’ve been using Gmail for about three years. I usually use the Microsoft Office interface, though, rather than the web interface, so I couldn’t tell you about the graphic situation.

LOVE GMAIL!!! Convert! Convert! Convert!!! :-)

Gmail all the way. It’s true that you can’t use HTML (including photos), but the benefits are well worth it. I was a slow convert but now I couldn’t live without it. Anywhere in the world, I can access virtually all of my info at any time. Love it.

I have been using Yahoo for my blog just because I have had that e-mail forever. I must also mention that I reply to most comments directly on my blog.

I have used gmail for 4 years and been happy. I used it for communications with parents and students when I was teaching. It was quick easy and I could flag things nicely. I do prefer the folders that Yahoo has, but gmail is getting more added to it all the time.

With that said I just signed up for a gmail account to use for my blog in case I make the switch for that as well.

Good luck with your decision and let us know what you decide.

I have yahoo as well, and have used it for years. It has been kind of wonky lately, I’m getting lots of my yahoo group emails in my bulk folder and lots of spam in my inbox… I think soon I will be switching my email to a company address, but that will also be through yahoo, so don’t know if it will make a difference…

No image in Gmail signatures, no, but way faster, better service and operations than Yahoo. I’ve had both for years and I MUCH prefer Gmail. Takes a few days to get used to, but I would never reject Gmail in favor of Yahoo. No contest, IMO.

With my latest issues with yahoo, I have become a gmail girl. I’m still trying to familiarize myself with it, and I guess you can’t add graphics to your signature… I just cut and paste my logo if I need to - It seems to work just fine.

I love gmail and will NEVER go back to yahoo!!

I have one of both (as you might have noticed ;) ) and I hadn’t noticed the no HTML thing about Gmail, but I know they don’t like it when I receive HTML. I like them both and haven’t had any problems with Yahoo…but I also haven’t been checking my spam box to see what’s in there as I was scared by it before…people out there send terrible stuff!!!

I’ve been using gmail for so long I remember when people were excited when one of their friends got invites so you could beg for them and sign up and then make all of your friends beg for them.

Ah, the good ol’ days.

Gmail is great but it takes a little bit to get used to the tags -vs- directories.

If my dad can figure it out, though, you’ll do fine.

I am using yahoo. My problem lately has been not being able to download attached image files. There has been some delay in the mails coming in too.

But what I like about yahoo mail is being able to chat simultaeneously.

Over the years we’ve used several different email providers and we like gmail the best. It’s free so open an account while you’re using your yahoo and see which “you” prefer.

I have been considering changing for lots of reasons - one yahoo is annoying lately like you said and secondly I still haven’t changed since I got married. lol! And that’s been 3.5 years now.. I’d like to have my real last name as my e-mail. It confuses people. It was great to read all the comments.

I know right where you are. I loved images in my signature and was a die hard Outlook user before Gmail. I wasn’t sure I could make the switch to plain text but I knew from my husband that HTML is the gateway to spam and was why they don’t use it. I made a cold switch and you couldn’t pay me to go back. In my opinion Gmail is unbeatable for more reasons than I can count. :)

Hugs,
Holly

I’ve used gmail for several years now and love it - I have my other e-mail accounts (Comcast) forwarded there and even can respond ‘from’ those accounts using gmail’s interface. I don’t miss not being able to use graphics in my signature though.

I have been using Gmail for about a year and a half now. I haven’t had any issues. I actually like it better than Yahoo because it catches all of my spam, and only 1 legit email has gone to spam the entire time I have been using Gmail.

I have several email accounts, some with Yahoo, some witih Gmail, some with Hotmail and a few with Verizon so I use Windows Live Mail because it lets me keep track of all of my accounts in one place. I love it because I can also see all my RSS feed subscription, and it allows HTML!

I’m using Gmail all the time -even for my own domain mail, I had it connected with Google Apps -in that way I could use gmail while retaining the domain address (email@owndomain.com).

As with signature limitation, I have no idea since I just use my blog address(link) under my name.

I use both Yahoo and Gmail. I have them set to download into my Incredimail though, so I don’t have a problem when wanting to add a signature or pictures into my mail.

Oh and by the way Kailani, come on over to my blog when you get a chance, I have something for you :)

Very nice blog you have here!
I have a yahoo account and a gmail. I love the gmail and often forget about the yahoo, and I have noticed that a lot of my mail in and out of yahoo gets sent to a spam folder. It’s very irritating.
I guess they both have pros and cons.

I use gmail for my junk mail. (When I sign up for stuff that I expect a lot of junk to come with it.) One nice thing is you can delete your entire junk mail folder in one click. (Even if there are thousands!) Did I mention I had some junk mail?!?!?

I’ve been having so much trouble with hotmail lately. er…

Same here- stuff that is *very* important is going into my Yahoo spambox, and mail is arriving a day and even 2 days late- it\’s absolutely horrible. The lateness started about a week and a half ago, but the spam trouble started about a month ago. I just switched to gmail.
