I Have Exceeded My CPU Usage
I seem to be having trouble with my site again lately. Every once in a while I’ll get this message:

Is anyone else seeing this? How do I fix it? Whaaaaa!

Yes, it is doing it to me also. You probably need to contact your host to raise your bandwidth. It usually means you have reached you maximum number of visitors and you need more bandwidth to allow more visitors. Hope that helps.

Hmm, no I haven’t seen that – but the anti-spam image isn’t showing up for me. I’ve had to listen to the audio file in order to find out what word to enter. Not sure if that’s related or if it’s just something weird happening on my end…
Good luck getting it figured out!

NO I HAVEN’T received a message like that, hope it all works out! Grrr hate to get messages where it says to contact so and so.
No idea what to do, but I would always contact the host and have them investigate it. Also let them know exactly when this message shows up. Good luck!

Kailani,
This looks all too familiar. I was battling my host for a solid two weeks about this very issue. Accroding to my host, the CPU usage doesn’t have a lot ot do with your bandwidth, but rather, the scripts your using either A. need to be updated, or B. taken off because they are dragging processing down.
When you share a server with other customers, you’re allowed a certain amount of CPU usage. If/when that exceeds the allotted amount, then your account is dragging the other customers down and your host is forced to either shut your site down until you fix it, or move your account to a temporary, and more unreliable server (which is what they did for mine).
It’s most likely either the plug-ins your using and/or any javasripts you might be using (this might include the ad scripts.) Everytime you use a script, it has to contact the script server, and if THAT server is running slow, it slows your server down – a trickling affect. That’s another reason to pick and choose the number of scripts you have running on your site.
They will also likely tell you to make sure you have the latest version of WP installed – I noticed the other day that WP upgraded AGAIN (drives me batty when there’s a new version to update every month), so make sure you have the latest version.
I hope this helps! And good luck! I know what you’re going through – hence my move; it just became too much of an issue for me and I didn’t have the time, nor the energy to deal with it.
Karen is right. It has nothing to do with bandwidth. Rather, it is related to the load on the shared server but it is related to the number of visitors you have because every time the page is pulled up, the server has to work.
You definitely need to upgrade to WordPress 2.6 not just because of CPU drain, but also because of the many security fixes and new features. That will help.
Your hosting service should offer you assistance with this by 1) providing logs that you can access from your control panel that tell you which plugins are causing the strain on the server; and 2) helping you find the source of the problem.
You may need to transfer to a either a dedicated server (costs a few bucks) or a host that has a server with higher CPU limits. You will have to compare your hosting package with others that are available.
I can’t help you with the techie part, but I can tell you that I got that message yesterday when I tried to post a comment. I also could not see your anti spam word yesterday either.
i’ve been to your site many times since last night and have received this message most of the time (thus, the many visits).
also, the spam word isn’t showing up. on your aloha friday post, there wasn’t even a space for your spam word so there wasn’t even the option of clicking on it to hear it audibly.
i know how frustrating this must be for you. good luck resolving the problem.

HOw annoying! I wouldn’t know what to do to fix that…other than throwing the computer out of the window. Do you think it would help? Probably bad advice
It happened to me last night when I was trying to enter your giveaways. My guess would be you need to pay for more bandwidth for your site.
Strange. You could look on the bright side, I guess your just popular and you have a wonderful blog! =)
How frustrating for you. I hope your (our – I’m using the same host) host puts up with its popularity and efficiency regarding customer service!
I hope it gets sort out soon. Everyone wants a piece of the Island Life!
You need to be shifted on more fast server with more RAM and big cache. I am using a share server as well but I think I shall have to migrate to a dedicated one. Shared servers are good to start but they react badly when you will have some traffic and content.
Marry, I am waiting for that message then. I shall love to have so much traffic that my host can pop up that message for me. Good Lucks! to you.
I am sad because i shall not receive that message ever. I am already on dedicated server which costs a lot but save me from couple of other pains. I have been planning for many ventures so I decided it from very first day and I am happy.
