Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

Why did you start blogging?

  1. I started blogging after several of my friends had done it. I enjoyed reading what they had to say. I see blogging as a way to document things that were going on in my life, with my kids and share views about certain items.

  2. Tena says:

I orginally started to blog to keep friends and family that live far away up to date with the family. I also used it as a form of a journak to help keep my memories straight of the boys. It has since become therapy, helps relieve stress!
    Great question!!

  3. Tara says:

My sister (at My Everyday Joys Blog) encouraged me to start my own blog. And with my wanting to lose weight I felt that blogging would be a great outlet for writing and receiving encouragement!

  4. cora says:

I started blogging during the off peak travel season when i don’ have much to do in the office. I always love writing, so i thought blogging is a fantastic idea!

  5. Renee says:

I started cuz my friend talked me into it. In fact my first post was pretty skeptical that I would keep it up. LOL!

  6. JHS says:

I was motivated to write about what was happening to Terry Schiavo. I provided information, documents, etc. to her parents’ attorney but was unable to make a difference in the outcome of her case. It came after I litigated Conservatorship of Wendland and people were telling me I should write a book. I knew I did not have the time, energy or emotional strength for that, so I opted to blog instead. From there, I gradually got into more personal topics, posts about writing, etc. and spun the original blog off on its own, making Colloquium my main site.

  7. i had another blog where i kept my family updated on what was happening in the life of my family. i came to the point i wanted to say more so i moved over to blogger and made it with a wider scope. my purpose has always been to say what’s on my mind and to have a written record for my future generations to know who i am/was and what life is/was like for me and my family.

  8. Dee says:

i really can’t remember, At first I thought I would have a voice out there in the blog land. As I started to write however I got paranoid like my family would read it, so in the end I like reading blogs more than I like blogging, But I have some ideas I’m kicking around to make blogging more fun for myself.

  9. I started blogging to learn about html and all the bells and whistles of widgets. I’m about the most tech savy person in my family so it wasn’t anything about keeping them updated. I’ve had such a blast with it and it has really evolved into an outlet for me. I’ve made more new friends and I feel very blessed for that.

  10. I started blogging so that I could share the beauty of Hawaii with family and friends that visit rarely or never. The time diff btw here and the mainland was also a challenge to keep up with folks. My mom and MIL were always bugging me for pics. But after awhile it quit being about meeting everyone else’s needs!!!

  11. I started blogging because I wanted to rant about the past. Little did I realize that my blog will become a positive venue of my thoughts, feelings and exeiriencess

  12. I started blogging for a couple of reasons. I’d started reading a few blogs that I really liked and realized that I had things that I wanted to say too. And I have such a poor long-term memory that I saw it was a good way to help remember what the girls are doing and what they’ve done in the past.

Why I’ve kept blogging though – is for some different reasons. I never expected to find such an amazing community of women in the blogosphere, and there are so many inspiring bloggers out there. :)

  13. Cathi says:

When I moved back to CA after spending 2.5 years in FL, I became a follower of a FL friend’s blog. It helped me still feel part of my circle of friends in FL and not miss them so much. I began blogging in response to her blog; to keep friends and family updated with my family.

  14. Deborah says:

To keep up with family and friends. A year ago I married a wonderful Aussie man and moved from Michgan to Queensland! Blogging has been a fantastic way to keep in touch!

  15. Jenni says:

I started just for fun, really! It’s great to be able to be creative and write and get responses!

  16. AmyG says:

My friend, Amanda, from ohamanda.com told us about the bloggy carnival, last February. As I was reading blogs, I just felt inspired to start my own. It’s been fun & trying at the same time, lol.

  17. HeatherY says:

I really enjoyed reading other blogs and decided to get in on the fun! It’s a good way to help my brain from turning into complete mush.

  18. About a year and a half ago, I started a blog. It was to practice my rusty writing skills. It was basically a boring account of the cute things my kids were doing/saying. I had maybe 100 total readers in the six months it was up! Then, for a while I wrote a freelance writing blog, and got tired of it.

After that, I researched successful blogs, because I’d started a blog that I really enjoyed, and wanted it to be a success. Now that I’m really taking blogging seriously, I really enjoy it, and don’t get bored like I did with my other, unfocused blogs.

I now have another reason for maintaing my blog and growing my audience. I’ve been accepted to the University of Memphis for their online-only Journalism degree, emphasis on PR. (Fingers crossed that everything works out). If I want a job in PR eventually, I figure it won’t hurt to get a little experience with product review, getting my name out there, etc.

Also, Now that I have a blog I regularly post to, it’s become a really good way to network, and keep in touch with family and friends.

  19. Angie says:

I started blogging because I was bored. I enjoy it now and can share my (what seems to be at the moment) exciting life!

  20. Bridgette says:

Honestly, I started blogging because I wanted to win prizes! LOL!

  21. Sheila says:

The idea was two fold. First I love to journal, so my husband suggested blogging.

The second was to put ads on the blog and maybe eventually be able to supplement our college fund. (which was wiped out in the market on 911) LOL. That is too funny because no one EVER clicks on those ads! (Newbies!)

  22. I love your questions. I started blogging because I wanted a place online to display the articles I’d be writing in freelance. I didn’t even know what a blog was until someone suggested it 2 1/2 years ago. My have things changed;)

Hey, it’s my husband’s 40th birthday today, care to come over and wish him well?

  23. Quite a few girls on my Momma board blog and kept telling me I should start blogging.

Then I had some extended family and friends that moved out of state and thought it would be a good way for them to keep tabs of what was going on in our lives.

Now I found out you can also make money blogging. I don’t make a lot, but at least I’m able to buy some of the kids birthday/christmas gifts with it!

  24. meredith says:

I started blogging to give myself an outlet to talk about things my hubby would not want to listen to. And to meet other bloggers who are interesting, you can always learn something from others.

  25. Snowbird says:

I started blogging because my daughter had started a blog and I really enjoyed reading about her life. I figured this was a great way to let all of my family and friends know what was going on in my life. I can’t believe the number of blogging buddies I’ve “met” through my blog and other blogs. I also started a genealogy blog hoping to get some answers to some of my genealogy research questions.

By the way, today is my first attempt at Aloha Friday. Come on over and check me out.

  26. Jen says:

I knew I’d miss out on some serious blogland fun if I didn’t jump in and start blogging. I’m so glad did- I love it. :)

  27. Cammi says:

I started blogging more as a journal because it’s easier for me to type than write…sad, I know! But then it became a fantastic way to keep in touch with my extended family, I started to meet new people and now it’s evolved into a world of its own! I love it!

  28. I felt like I wasn’t using my english degree at all and just keeping an online journal wasn’t enough – I wanted a place to play with my writing and write about more than just how my day was, though still being able to do that, too. And I was curious about the mom blogging community as I kept hearing about it everywhere!

  29. My cousin suggested it as a creative outlet to combat boredom when we moved to this small town and I was having trouble meeting people, which if you knew me you’d know is unusual, so I need something to help with being the lonely new kid in town.

  30. Qtpies7 says:

My friend started a blog with a couple of posts about her family. And I thought I’d start one, too. She hasn’t updated hers in the two years since then, and I am going strong and LOVE it! I thought it would be a place to write about the kids for family and friends, but it became way more than that to me. And most of my family and friends far away do not read it, lol.

  31. happyathome says:

I started to sharpen my mind and keep me active in the computer world. Having worked all of my life, leaving my job as a General Manager of a major catalog web business selling bathroom fixtures and tile, I wanted to stay in touch. Now it has gone beyond what I thought it ever would have and looking forward to so mch more!

  32. Kelly says:

i started journaling about my new role as a mother and i thought that my experiences would help other moms (or at least make them laugh!), so i decided to put them into a blog.

  33. AJ says:

I started out just reading blogs and then realized that I should start my own and give others something to read also. Blogging has become a great outlet for me and I love reading what others have to say!

  34. It’s a great way for me to get things off my mind. Being completely right brained and female, you wouldn’t believe how my mind taunts me. :) I also was interested in doing product reviews and wanted to get into doing that. Before my blog, I would always be telling my friends about things I found on the internet (you can just ask ‘em). Now, I find these things and get to share them with the blogosphere. How fun!

  35. To keep track of ME. Because I tend to lose myself in the wife/mom muck.

Not that being a wife/mom is MUCK, per se, …

    Okay, sometimes it is. *grin*

  36. Nancy says:

I started blogging to help network my online boutique and get the word out there! I’m still learning all the ropes and have not been a very consistent blogger yet! I started out trying to blog about shopping and golf, but think I need to separate the two?? Oh well, learn something new everyday! Happy wk-end to all!

  37. Nancy says:

Oops ~ Forgot to add the Chic Boutique the first time – sorry! Anyhow ~ Love your Blog! and the island stuff – the ocean and the beach – my sanctuaries – ha!!

  38. diana says:

I started to update folks on our crazy move — from Virginia to the Virgin Islands. I figure not everyone gets to do this and as I actually MOVE tomorrow I’m sure we’ll have some good stories along the way ;-)

  39. CoolProducts says:

I haven’t started my own blog, yet. I very much enjoy reading others blogs, however, and potentially one day when I feel I have something to contribute to society, I will begin my own blog! =)

  40. sagemom says:

To share my opinions on the eco-friendly products I use, to share my pregnancy and parenting stories, and mostly because of a certain blog that inspired me… =)

  41. Jamie says:

i started blogging because i wanted to meet other bloggers that have the same stories as me to tell.

  42. anne says:

My friend Kelli got me into it

  43. Tori says:

As a creative outlet first off– and hopefully to inspire other women to create fabulous (and simple) events themselves!

  44. Jessica NBP says:

I started blogging b.c a lot of online mommies that had the same birth month as my little one started blogging and I wanted to keep up with theirs. Well it slowly dwindled and not MOMDOT has gotten me back into it again and I’m happy to say that I’m approaching my 300th post.

  45. Forgetfulone says:

I started blogging because one of my friends who had moved several states away had a blog. So, I started one. No other special reason.

  46. I started blogging because I love to write.

  47. …because all the cool people I know has a blog!

  48. maria says:

I became a blogger after trying to leave a message on a friends blog. It looked like I had to join in order to leave it so I did.

When I started it was to keep a journal for my kids of what was going on in our lives. Now, it is so much more. It is to create a legacy, keep my computer skills up, and learn.

I love blogging. It is all I do for myself.

  49. I started a blog because I loved giveaways. Entering them, and now, hosting my own! Now my blog has evolved into much more, I do product reviews and much more.

  50. Todd says:

I started a blog because I wanted a venue to express my opinions about the things I see around me.

  51. Lisa C. says:

As an outlet!!! (Not that I have alot of time… lol.. but sometimes I have alot to say… :) ~ )

  52. Kila says:

I’ve always kept a journal, and when I discovered blogs I decided to move the journaling online so relatives and friends could keep up-to-date on us. The grandmas love it.

  53. jennifer says:

I started working when my new job mandated it. But I much prefer visiting other’s blog than writing in my own, tho!
