Aloha Friday #29

April 25, 2008

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing heavy or too thought-provoking.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

How do you feel is the best way to respond to comments on your blog?

Comment Spotlight by GroovyOldLady of Groovy’s Ruminations:

Odd, I was just going to post a question like that. Isn’t there some unwritten blog policy? I’d have to guess not because everyone seems to handle it differently.

I usually go the commenters blog if I’m going to respond because I guess I really don’t believe nyone will ever come back to my blog and read the commetns again - unless they flamed me and want to see if I took the bait. But no one ever does that on my blog because I’m so darned cute and adorable and they all like me. That, or they write nasty things about me AFTER i’ve commented on their blogs and can do so without fear because I never go back to check for a response.

Kailani, are you reading this? Hellll-oooooooooooo.

:-D

i visit the blog and leave a comment for them. if it’s a regular reader, i already do this on a regular basis. if it’s a new commentor, i definitely visit them, comment, and if i like their blog, i go back a few times. that hopefully establishes a blogging relationship.

unfortunately, my answer to the best way to respond is different from what I am doing….

The best way for me is to answer there in the comment section too. Then visit their blog and comment on their post.

Second best way is to answer vis e-mail.

But right now I am pressed for time so I answer sporadically. Hopefully I can do better in time…

is it bad that I usually don’t? unless they ask a specific question! Most times I do at least try to go visit their blog and comment though.
partly probably because blogspot doesn’t save emails so in order to reply I have to go find their email either through their profile or somewhere else.

I enjoy visiting the blogs of those who leave a comment. I don’t always leave a comment in return. Sometimes it isn’t necessary. But, I do try to.

I try to answer through my comment box (although lately I haven’t been able to do that to all comments). I also make it a point to make a return visit to the commenter.

I don’t know what the best way to respond is, but I will tell you how I do it…

If someone’s comment sparks something that I want to add about the post, or if they ask a question about the post, I respond as a comment on my post.

If it is a new commenter, I usually go to their site and comment on one of their posts, adding a thanks for visiting.

If it is a regular commenter, I often am already commenting on their site, anyway. A lot of times, I don’t really end up commenting back specifically (unless they have a specific question).

I really am not the best at responding, but I am trying to be better.

I wish I had the time to do more than I do. I try to visit their blog (if they have one) or at least respond in my comments section. Sometimes I’ll respond by e-mail, but since moving to Wordpress where I can edit comments directly I don’t do that very often anymore. I don’t respond to all of them - in fact lately it’s been very few since I’ve had a hard time just keeping up with all of the blogs that I usually read on a regular basis.

I usually respond in my comments section if it is a regular commentor that I know subscribes to the comment feed.

If they are new and I am not sure, then I will either reply via e-mail or go to their blog and leave a comment. I try to say something thoughtful about one of their most recent posts.

I usually will email the person if they ask a question. I do like how people answer questions in their own comments. I guess I could do that too and let people know that.

I find that my regulars like that I copy their questions & comments into a new post and blog about them…it kinda shares the fame, ya know?

Also making a new post makes me pop up on their reader so they know to come back.

I will go comment on their blog too.

Renee’s last blog post..Re: the cleaning before the party…

most commentors leave a comment so that their blogs will be commented on, too. so i try to visit their blog and leave a comment. but i always want to leave a sensible comment so a problem persist when their post doesn’t need a comment, or when i don’t have anything relevant to add.

so most of the time, i email back the reply to their comment, even just to thank them from dropping by, and i even post the reply in my blog, but this is a work in progress.

Good question!
New commenters usually get an email reply. I respond in the comments section if it adds to the discussion of the post I wrote. And sometimes I’m just flaky and go back and forth. New commenters always get a visit from me to their own blog.

I used to reply to all comment right within a comment of my own on my blog. Luckily in the last few weeks I finally have my blog e-mail working correctly. Now I receive an e-mail each time I have a comment. This allows me to quickly reply back to everyone. In addition to this I always try to go to the commentor’s blog to say hello there.

TheAngelForever’s last blog post..Turtles, Dinos & Bears. . . oh my!

Over the weekend, I try to send an email to each of the new commenters on my blog. I simply do not have time to do this on a daily basis so I do my best to do it once a week.

Additionally, I go to my commenters blog (regardless of new or regular commenter on my blog) and comment on at least 1 comment there. Again, I try to do this once a week rather than daily.

Sometimes I respond on my blog but not always.

Great question, and everyone has a different way to handle this. For me, I always respond to every comment in my comment box. I like for everyone else to see the “conversation” and perhaps get more insight into the topic I’m discussing. And I will always pay to a visit to every commenter, whether new or old.

Now, I do like the email reply as well, though I rarely do it. But I’m rethinking that. Sometimes, I’ll copy my comment from my comment box and email it to the person in case they don’t make it back. I especially do this if there is a specific question.

Happy Friday!

If I did, I would email a response. The one blogger who responds to all my comments is Grace, and I think that it’s a great way to keep in touch.

The best I can do is visit a blog that has left me a comment, and if they’ve asked me a question, I answer it when I visit their blog.

yoshi said:

You know I struggled on this. But here’s what I’ve come up with:

Comments flow a certain way. To respond to them I comment on my post with a response of “@whoever” and respond. And I respond to everyone who commented. That way there is a flow of conversation. On my site, I try not to have it where people just comment on a post, instead, it’s more like a group of people standing around and talking about whatever I posted.

that’s what I’ve come up with. If I send an email to someone, no one else would be able to comment about that, if they had something to say. So I like to make sure that comments flow.

If someone asks something specific, I usually respond in an email. If I get several people asking similar questions, or giving similar thoughts, I may address it in another blog post.

I really love replying via email if they’ve included an email address. But if it’s a question that others might also have, I’ll reply both in my comments section and through email if possible!

I’m a hodgepodge gal…LOL The first thing I do is edit the comment adding my own thoughts/answer in bold right on my blog. The only ones I don’t do this for are WW comments. But I do always pay a return blog visit and comment - I think that just good “blogiquette” and I sometimes will send a personal e-mail response. It depends on the relationship, if that person sends e-mails on my comments or if I have problems viewing or leaving return comments on their blog type of thing.

I always address and thank everyone for stopping by in my comments section, and very occasionally I email. I used to go visit everyone who commented on my blog, but now not as much. I just don’t have the time. That said, I am a reader of almost all the regular commenters to my blog so mostly I think I’m walking the line of gratitude and good manners with blogging. I’m trying anyway.

Good question, Kailani.

If someone asks a particular question, I will either answer it in a new post…or send a quick e-mail. I had thought about writing an answer in the comments, but, if that person is like me (busy!!) it’s hard to go back and go through comments on other blogs…it’s sometimes hard just to do that on my own blog!! :-D
I think that by visiting that person’s blog and commenting, it sets up a good relationship…Having the GoogleReader has made my blogging life soo much easier….but, my list of “favorites” grows almost daily!!
Have a wonderful weekend! Aloha!!
