And you’re all invited!

Pamela of Happy Panda has decided to throw a Cyber Baby Shower for Janice & Susan of 5 Minutes For Mom. There are games, prizes, and fun to be had by all!

To play along, all you need to do is post some photos or answer some of the questions they have listed on their site. Hop on over there for more details.

Now, since there’s no way I’m entering the category of most unbelievable birthing pain photo or best baby bump photo (I only gained 19 pounds!), I guess I’ll just have to answer one of the party questions.

What did you like least about being pregnant? I was not one of those women who “glowed” during pregnancy. I was so sick during the first 4 months that the doctor had to prescribe Zolfran which is usually given to chemotherapy patients. This pill which needed to be taken every 8 hours cost me $20 for each one. Can you believe that? And that was with my excellent insurance coverage! Needless to say, I didn’t take it very often since there was no way we could afford it! My friends think I’m crazy but I’d take going through labor and delivery over being pregnant any day!

How much weight did you gain during your pregnancy?

    Oooo. That’s an evil question!

Child 1: I gained 65 pounds. I lost every ounce of it because I saw an interview with Richard Simmons who stated flatly that women who gain more than 50 during pregnancy will never lose it all. He made me so mad that I proved him worng!

Child 2: 50 pounds. Lost it all

Child 3 (13 years later): 45 pounds, still lost it all.

Child 4: 40 pounds and, well, I’m older now and my metabolism is slower! She’s 6 now and I’m still10 pounds more than I was when I got pregnant. I gotta stop eating the girls’ leftovers!

  2. maria says:

enough to hope I was giving birth to a 6 year old each time, and saved some just in case I ever decided I missed being pregnant. lol

  3. Kelly @ Love Well says:

Can I wait until January to answer that question? I’d like to average in this pregnancy (my third) because I’m not gaining nearly as much this time.

Oh, and I couldn’t agree more about pregnancy versus delivery. Twenty-four hours of labor (with an epidural, thank you very much) would be preferred over 10 weeks of 24/7 nausea.

  4. Jen @ One Moms World says:

I was thankful not to experience much morning morning sickness, but boy did I gain the weight. I gained 59lbs with first one and 62lbs with second. EEEK!

  5. Deb says:

My problem wasn’t what I gained, but what I couldn’t lose afterward. Which has been about 20 pounds per child, so you can do the math there. I only gained a net total of 8 pounds when pregnant with Becca and came out of the hospital weighing less than I had when I got pregnant – but gained it all back afterward and then some… :(

  6. Renee says:

I think that I gained about 40 lbs with DD. My grandmother was thrilled…my mother started telling me that doctors were saying that they now (then almost 10 years) only recommending 25 lbs and that the extra 10 lbs weren’t necessary. I told her that since she had no medical degree, I would listen to my doctor and there was no way I was going to diet while pregnant!

My mom has always been on my case about my weight…as if it mattered at all!

So I gained 40 lbs, lost it all and then gained about 20 back when we moved overseas. I lost 10 of that and have hovered around 5 to 10 lbs over my pre pregnancy weight ever since.
Sad part is a friend of mine’s family is sick with a stomach virus and her DH lost 8 lbs…I’m thinking that might be a good way to loose a bit of weight. Aren’t I sick?

  7. Renee says:

No, I won’t go getting myself sick. I promise.

  8. Tiffanie says:

I was sick like that too with all three and loved the Zofran!!! That stuff is the only stuff that would help just to be able to get out of bed and make it to the couch. Let’s see I gained 67 pounds with Baby GIrl, 11lbs with Little Monkey, and 20lbs with Tiger.

    Will it ever come off?????

  9. Kailani says:

Tiffanie – Was the Zolfran outrageously expensive in your area, too?

As for the weight loss, I’m still working on it! LOL!

  10. Kailani says:

Renee – That reminds me of the movie The Devil Wears Prada where Emily says that she’s just one stomach flu away from her ideal weight. LOL!

  11. Kailani says:

GroovyOldLady – Wow! That’s great that you were able to lose all that weight! Was it through exercising?

I never did care much for Richard Simmons.

  12. Write From Karen says:

*blink* I’m sorry, did I just read you ONLY GAINED 19 POUNDS?! Girl, if I didn’t like you so much, I’d hate you. lol

Though, it sounds like it was mainly due to being sick, so I totally forgive you. *grin* Seriously, what a bummer for you! :-(

I gained a whopping 60 pounds with my first one and lost it all in about two weeks. My oldest was 8 weeks premature and in the NICU for six weeks. I was so stressed that I couldn’t even look at food without feeling sick.

My second, I only gained about 30 pounds. However, it took me a LONG TIME to take it off. But quite honestly? I didn’t try very hard. We were having some marital problems and I was having a hard time coping with two little boys that I was too depressed to care.

But then I saw some pictures of myself … and well, I started walking, pronto. Nothing motivates you more than seeing how BIG you are in family pictures, especially when forced to stand next to anorexic family in-law members. (They are all super skinny and I hate them. Not really).

  13. Kailani says:

Karen – I’m sorry to hear that your first son was premature. That must have been really scary for your family. How much did he weigh when he was born?

I was sick for the first 4 months and really didn’t have much of an appetite during the rest of the pregnancy. I tried to eat as much as I could but I had an adversion to pretty much all food.

Both my girls were a little over 5 pounds at birth but you would never guess that looking at them now! LOL!

    Happy Monday!

  14. Summer says:

    Baby 1 – 40 pounds
    Baby 2 – 37 pounds
    Baby 3 – 43 pounds

I don’t “glow” during pregnancy either.

  15. Jennifer says:

    I think I gained between 30 and 45 lbs between 4 kids.

I was sick with all of my pregnancies too! I had the Zolfran and The regland pump that put medicine in me through a tube in my leg. So much fun!!! NOT! I can’t believe I had 4 children feeling so yucky the first 4 months!

They do have a name for it now. hyperemesis gravidarum

  16. MyStarbucks says:

my first boy I gained 40lbs.
my second boy I gained 40 lbs.
my first girl I gained 40 lbs and 5 years later
my second girl I gained 35 lbs. I have lots of loose skin and would love a tummy tuck. After being stretched four times with 9lb kids i think I deserve one but boy are those types of operations spendy. I agree with Kailani. I would take labor and delivery over pregnancy any day of the week!

  17. SeaBird says:

I could’ve written exactly what you wrote! I gained 19 lbs with my boys – and lost it all by two weeks after their birth. I had terrible nausea for the first 5 months, then medium nausea for the remaining 2 1/2 months. Ugh, I hate even thinking about it.

  18. Kailani says:

Jennifer – I give you credit. If I had to go through all of that, Girlie Girl would probably be an only child! ;-)

  19. Kailani says:

Seabird – Me, too. As much as I love my girls, I remember just hating life during pregnancy. I was so miserable! Everyone kept saying I should be positive and remember that there will be a wonderful outcome to all of it. I was thinking – yeah right.

They were right after all! But I still don’t ever want to be pregnant again. :-)

  20. Christine says:

With each of the girls I gained like 30, but my son, at the end I was BIG, something like 50 pounds. I looked like a whale. One thing about having active kids, I didn’t have a very hard time losing all the post baby weight.

I had terrible acid reflux with my son. Everynight before I went to bed, it felt like my throat and chest were on fire. I was the most miserable with my son. Marissa’s pregnancy went by very fast, and Lindsay’s too.

$20 a pill, WOW, that is expensive. That’s good you only needed it for a short time.

  21. Grace says:

I gained 30 pounds and have lost 20 pounds on the first year mainly due to lack of sleep and breastfeeding. Then I am on a plateu right now..why is this taking forever?

I want to lose more before I get pregnant again, next year maybe.

  22. lulu says:

I gained 35 pounds and immediately lost it all. However, I was YOUNG. Now, I weigh exactly the same thing that I did when I was 9 months pregnant! Which isn’t too bad a thing considering I weighed 100 lbs. when I got pregnant! Did I mention that I was YOUNG?
