Pam Tim Pictogram Watch

Have you ever heard of a pictogram watch?  I hadn’t until recently when I received an educational box set which contained 1 hands watch, 1 pictograms watch, 1 educative booklet, and 1 card game.  Wow!  What a set!!!  When I showed it to my children my teenage daughter said “that’s cool!”  My 6 year old son said “yay…that’s mine!”  And so began our close examination of this interesting watch.

Paris, France – Pam Tim, creator of the first pictogram watch, has just launched their new timepiece in the United States.  Dedicated to the innovative solutions, the Pam Tim watch uses pictograms enabling children as young as three to understand the concept of time and navigate throughout their day.

Bruno Graff, Founder and Creator of Pam Tim, first recognized the need for a new concept timepiece 25 years ago.  With a strong background in electronics engineering, and active experience in parenting, Graff discovered he could use technology to help children move from one activity to the next.  By automatically deactivating his computer at 8:30pm every day, Graff’s son Yohann quickly accepted bedtime in a positive, cooperative manner.

Graff decided to expand on this discovery and create a timepiece designed to guide preschoolers throughout their day.  By using combinations of pictograms rather than traditional hands on the clock, children are able to follow routines and understand the rhythm of each day with the Pam Tim watch.

Pam Tim pictograms match the moments of a child’s life, thanks to images representing mealtimes, tooth brushing, bath, bedtime, and school.  A pie-shaped hourglass defines the length of each activity, teaching children to pace themselves accordingly.  And results have been impressive – children empowered with Pam Tim timepieces understand the concept of time and move more smoothly from one activity to the next.

The pictogram watch is truly unique!  There’s a child’s face in the center of the display with a beating heart (yes! It’s really beating).  Around the face and heart are various images representing different activities such as bedtime, learning time, snack time, bath time, etc.  These same images are also on the band of the watch…really cute!!!  In fact, when you press the button a display of all the images is shown.  Then a few seconds later, it quickly shows a sequence of events.  We actually did this quite a few times to see all the images.  We were simply amazed.  The hands watch is also adorable.  This is your traditional watch with numbers, but it has a blue and red pencil for its hands.  So cute!!!  (I know I can’t stop saying “cute”)

My son decided he wanted to wear the watch that very day.  It was so funny seeing him constantly look at his watch to see what image was displayed.  With each new image, he would tell me what he is supposed to be doing…it was hilarious!  I never thought my child would tell me “mom, I need to take a bath now”.  Wow…I was shocked!  Later that night, he also told me “mom, I need to go to bed”.  Are you serious?!  This is the child who would fight to stay awake and he’s telling me it’s time for bed.  I couldn’t believe it!  That night I found myself giggling as I thought about him and the pictogram watch.  Even now, I have a silly smile on my face!!!  Thank you Pam Tim!!!

Here’s a technical description of the watch courtesy of Pam Tim:

Lego: Ninjago Master of Spinjitzu DVD

This is probably one of the best reviews my family has done.  My boys are absolutely crazy about Lego Ninjago!  So when the opportunity to review the dvd was presented to us they were thrilled!!!

NINJA-GO!  The world of Ninjago is in terrible danger.  An army of skeletons has invaded from the underworld, under the command of the evil Lord Garmadon.  Their goal:  capture the Four Weapons of Spinjitzu, artifacts so powerful it is said no one being can wield them all at once.  Now Garmadon’s brother, the heroic Sensei Wu, must gather four young men and train them in the ways of the ancient art of Spinjitzu.  These four – Kai, Jay, Zane and Cole- must become ninja and stand against the dark power of Garmadon and his evil skeleton army.  If they fail, the four weapons will be lost and Ninjago doomed forever.

My boys have been watching Lego Ninjago on Cartoon Network for a while.  In fact, this show is the reason why they’ll get up early on a Saturday morning.  There are times when I’ll sit with them to watch an episode but I’ve never watched Lego Ninjago from the beginning so I had no idea how everything began.  Lego Ninjago Master of Spinjitzu is the perfect dvd for those who don’t know what Lego Ninjago is all about (me included).  This dvd contains two episodes – Way of the Ninja and King of ShadowsWay of the Ninja takes us back to the beginning and shows us how Lego Ninjago came to be and what spinjitzu is.  The four young men – Jay, Cole, Zane, and Kai are each dressed in a different color uniform (blue, white, black, and red).  The part that I found interesting was they each represent a different elemental property.  These elemental properties are fire, lightning, earth, and ice.  The young men are guided and taught by Sensei Wu.  He is a very wise man and is also the brother of the enemy, Lord Garmadon.  Sensei Wu trains these young men to gather the Four Weapons of Spinjitzu.  They battle dragons that protect the weapons and the army of skeletons whom Lord Garmadon commands from the underworld.  During one of the battles, the four young men realize that spinjitzu is in them when they notice the army of skeletons is similar to their training equipment.  This realization helps them to retrieve the first weapon of Spinjitzu.

The second episode is King of Shadows.  This episode begins with the Ninjago capturing two more weapons of Spinjitzu.  It is during the retrieval of the last weapon of Spinjitzu that we learn Lord Garmadon had planned the whole thing.  Since Lord Garmadon is banished to the underworld, he is not able to retrieve the sword which is one of the weapons of Spinjitzu.  Lord Garmadon appears as a shadow on the surface.  While tricking Kai into retrieving the sword, the other weapons of Spinjitzu are stolen from them by the army of skeletons.  In order to keep the four weapons of Spinjitzu apart, Sensei Wu heads to the underworld to battle his brother.  When the leader of the skeleton army captures all four weapons he is powerless against the weapons.  This creates a vortex out of the underworld for Lord Garmadon.  This is when we learn that Lord Garmadon’s master plan was to capture the four weapons in order to leave the underworld.  Ninjago is able to retrieve all four weapons, but they know their fight with Lord Garmadon is not over.  What a perfect way to end a dvd and to leave us asking for more.

If you have young boys, I can guarantee they will enjoy Lego Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu.  It’s definitely worth the money, because if your boys are like my boys they’ll be watching it over and over and over and over again!!!

Stay Safe in the Summer Sun with Coppertone (Giveaway)

We’ve all heard the saying “Lucky you live in Hawaii”.  This is so very true!  With our cool trade winds, beautiful sunshine, awesome beaches, gorgeous sunrise and sunsets, and lush green mountains, this is PARADISE!  But to enjoy being outdoors we need to protect our skin.  This is where Coppertone saves the day.  My family and I were lucky to review a sunscreen lotion and two sunscreen spray while enjoying a relaxing and fun-filled day at Ala Moana Beach Park.

Coppertone provided the following products for us to use:

  • Water Babies Pure & Simple – This product has an SPF 50, is tear free, #1 pediatrician recommended brand, and is water resistant for 80 minutes
  •  Coppertone Sport Pro Series – This product contains duraflex which is a durable technology that moves with your skin, has an SPF 50, stays on strong in extreme sweat conditions (won’t run in eyes), water resistant for 80 minutes, and is a clear continuous spray sunscreen
  •  Wet ‘n Clear Kids – This product sprays clear on wet skin, provides protection from the most damaging UVA/UVB rays, is water resistant for 80 minutes, visibly cuts through water, and contains broad spectrum SPF 45+

When we first arrived at the beach, I made sure we protected our skin.  We lathered the Water Babies Pure & Simple on our faces, ears, and necks.  What was great about this product was not worrying about it getting into my children’s eyes.  Such a relief!

We then sprayed the Coppertone Sport Pro Series on our arms, legs, shoulders, and backs because we wanted to go fishing first before heading to the cool water.  This product is wonderful!  It sprayed on nicely!  It was not sticky or greasy and the best part for my children was it had a great scent.  I liked the fact that we continued to be protected even while perspiring during our unsuccessful fishing expedition.

Since catching a fish seemed unlikely, the kids decided to go swimming.  They headed for the waves so quickly that I forgot to reapply more sunscreen.  Well, I had nothing to worry about since the Coppertone Sport Pro Series and the Water Babies Pure & Simple continued to protect their skin.  It was a while later that I decided to reapply more sunscreen.  This is normally when they complain and fuss because they don’t want to dry themselves up.  No problem!  We sprayed the Wet ‘n Clear Kids directly onto their wet skin and back into the water they went.  So easy!!!

Of course, the biggest test of these products happened after spending the entire day at the beach…seriously…we were packing everything in the dark.  Well, I am happy to report that we had NO sunburns!!!  Wow!!! We couldn’t believe after spending the entire day at the beach none of us got sunburned.  We will definitely bring all three Coppertone products with us on our next visit to the beach.  We won’t leave home without it!

Great Tasting Snacks by Snyder of Berlin

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “You learn something new every day”.  I am happy to say that I learned something new today!  There is a company called Snyder of Berlin® which produces a variety of snacks and is located in Berlin, Pennsylvania.  Some of you may be wondering “huh?!”  Well, I’ve heard of Snyder of Berlin but thought they only made pretzels.  I had no idea they made chips, pretzels, and popcorns, so I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to sample 5 of their chips – Original Potato Chips, Hawaiian Sweet Onion (kettle cooked), Baked Cheese Curls, Hot & Spicy Jalapeno (kettle cooked), and Original Bar-B-Q.

When we first opened the box, my family and I thought “okay, other companies carry similar products”.  Boy, were we surprised!  Yes, the names of these chips are similar to others we’ve eaten, but there is a definite difference in the taste and texture.  The chips from Snyder of Berlin were really delicious and not oily or salty!  The Baked Cheese Curls were light and had the right amount of cheese flavor – not overpowering like some other brands.  The Original and Bar-B-Q Potato Chips were also light and did not feel or taste greasy.  The kettle cooked Hawaiian Sweet Onion and Hot & Spicy Jalapeno was crunchy and flavorful.  I was hesitant about the Hot & Spicy Jalapeno but it wasn’t as hot as I expected.  Of course, the kick came after eating a bunch but it was so good I couldn’t stop!  It was very addicting!

For those of you not familiar with Snyder of Berlin, here’s some background information courtesy of Snyder of Berlin:

The Snyder family chip business began in 1920 in the home kitchen of Edward Snyder II and his wife, Eda, in a small town in Pennsylvania, using a recipe based on a snack that Edward had seen at a hotel in upstate New York.  As the popularity of their chips grew, they began to expand toward Pittsburgh.  Potato buyers and farmers in the Laurel Highlands got together with the Snyder family and determined it made sense to build a self-sustaining chips plant amid their fields where the potatoes were being grown.  Since opening that plant in 1947, Snyder of Berlin has been producing fresh and tasty snacks in the little farm town of Berlin, Pennsylvania.  The company has grown to include a variety of products beyond potato chips such as cheese snacks, popcorn and more – and for 65 years inviting snack lovers to “Taste the Difference”.

Snyder of Berlin is celebrating its 65th Anniversary with a “Snyder Snackshots” online photo contest.

From May 15, 2012 until December 31, 2012, snack lovers everywhere are asked to submit a photo of themselves, alone, or with family and friends, showing how they enjoy snacks from Snyder of Berlin brands.  Pictures from picnics, lunch time, or family BBQ’s are all great occasions to take pleasure in Snyder of Berlin snacks, but use your creativity to win big!

One grand prize winner will receive $1,000 in cash, a new camera valued at $150, and a year’s supply of Snyder of Berlin snacks.  Three runner-ups will each receive $500 cash, and a year’s supply of Snyder of Berlin snacks.  In addition to the grand prize winner and runner ups, there will be monthly winners who will automatically win a Snyder of Berlin Party Pack of Snacks, and become a contender to be a finalist or grand prize winner.  Only 1 entry per person, e-mail and/or household is allowed.  For more information and official rules please log onto and click on the “Snyder Snackshots” contest banner.

Now that we’ve eaten all of our samples, how do we get more?  Luckily, the company’s website,, has all the information.  The chips and other snacks are sold in cases.  Prices range from $9.86 – $34.92.  Check their website for specific information.  With summer in full swing, don’t forget to bring some Snyder of Berlin snacks.  You’ll be glad you did!!!
