Dermagist Skin Care Giveaway

When Kailani asked me if I would be interested in doing this review, my first impression was… hmmm…this sounds intriguing as I was already in the process of looking for the next “miracle” beauty product to even out my skin tone. I’ve been using a lightening product regularly by a well-known dermatologist but there were no significant improvements, so the timing was perfect to give the DERMAGIST skin line a try. What can I say? I’m forever an optimist.

“Why is everyone so crazy about this product?
Until now, anti-aging-focused products weren’t targeted properly. They tried to tighten the skin with chemicals. The Dermagist Complete Rejuvenation System takes a much different approach by aiming to help wrinkles, reduce the appearance of pores, and lessen the visibility of redness and discoloration. This all-around approach is what makes it a much more “complete” product for the skin than the other age-defying products you find on the market.

What is the Dermagist Complete Rejuvenation System® ?
The Dermagist Complete Rejuvenation System® is a method of combining the use of three high powered, uniquely effective formulas on a daily basis for a 30-45 day period. After the initial cycle of the System, a user may choose to repeat the cycle, OR simply continue to use the formula(s) of their choice.

Although each individual formula is available for sale separately, using them together, as instructed in our system, creates a powerful approach that is UNDENIABLE to the user.”

Wow, a complete rejuvenation system using only these three products? It seemed too good to pass up so here I am to give you a sincere and straightforward review.

I decided to give a review of the Dermagist Complete Rejuvenation System after using the following three products for three weeks. I thought, at least by this time, I would be able to see a “difference” in my overall skin tone:

  1. Original Wrinkle Smoothing Cream
  2. Dynamic Age-Defying Serum
  3. Instant-Effect Lifting Serum

After completing three weeks of treatments, I found the Complete Rejuvenation System remarkable. It really did reduce the wrinkles; but what I really like about it is the way it started to lighten the sun spots that I masked with a concealer under my makeup. I also wanted a product to even out my skin tone and this System seemed to be doing that. I’m anticipating that after the completion of the initial cycle of the System (30-45 days), I won’t need to use a concealer under my makeup (that would be incredibly wonderful).

The only downside was the morning treatments from “Day 5 until FINISH OF PRODUCT.” The instruction says to do the treatment first thing in the morning and wait at least two hours before washing your face. Now, I’m wondering how many busy women can actually wait for two hours before going into their regular beauty regimen while getting dressed and doing all the things she needs to do before leaving the house?

Since Day 5 was a necessary and important part of the treatments, I felt I needed to put in a little “effort” to make this work. I could get up a little earlier (half-an-hour or so, if that works for you), but decided on days that I was planning on going out, I would go the whole ‘nine yards” and get up two hours earlier than my usual wake-up time (please, hear me out…thank you).

After washing off the bedtime treatment, I applied the morning treatment then went back to bed until my regular wake-up time. Since these products absorb quickly, I was back in bed in less than 10 minutes so I didn’t have any qualms about getting up an extra two hours and my regular morning routine went on as usual (works for me).

DERMAGIST is graciously providing a Complete Rejuvenation System as an incredible giveaway to one lucky winner…isn’t that awesome?

And if you’re not THAT lucky person, then DERMAGIST has a great “protected guarantee” for those of you who want to purchase these products: “You get a 30 day, Money Back Guarantee, where if you are unsatisfied for any reason, just return the products, for a REFUND. This way, you get to try this fantastic product practically risk free!” It sure sounds like a win-win situation.

Thank you DERMAGIST for providing this wonderful Complete Rejuvenation System. I can say, in all sincerity, that I really like what the System is doing up to this point and anticipating good results after the initial cycle of the System is completed. Also thank you to Kailani of AN ISLAND LIFE for letting me do this review.

Dino Dan: Dino Trackers DVD Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to commentor 71: Vickie C!

Did you know that a Brachiosaurus weighed up to 80 tons and a T-Rex could eat up to 500 pounds of meat in one bite? Avid fans of “Dino Dan,” Nick Jr.’s adventure-filled live action/CGI series, do! Now, the popular “paleontologist approved” show is available on DVD with “Dino Dan – Dino Trackers,” the premiere title in a brand new series from NCircle Entertainment.

My 4 ½ year old son, Ethan, is a big fan of dinosaurs. So, when I got the chance to review a DVD called Dino Dan: Dino Trackers, I accepted happily. When it arrived, my son saw the case and the pictures of Dan and the dinosaurs and asked to watch it right away. Dino Dan is a live action show with CGI dinosaurs, and I thought it was very well done.

Dino Dan: Dino Trackers is 60 minutes long and contains five different stories featuring a boy nicknamed Dino Dan (played by Jason Spevack). He’s a curious 10-year-old who imagines there are real dinosaurs living all around him – but only he can see them! The episodes include “Name-A-Saurus”, “To Flee or Not to Flee”, “There’s a Compsognathus Under My Bed”, “Dino Trackers” and “Mini-Dino”. The DVD also contains several extras- an episode of Are We There Yet?: World Adventure featuring a trip to a dig site in Alberta where lots of dinosaurs have been found, a Dino Dan Field Guide and a Dino Fact Finder.

My son wanted to watch every single episode and extra and then wanted to start them all over again when we were through. So, definitely a hit with my little boy! I also really liked the show. The episodes are fairly short, which is great for those with shorter attention spans, but they’re full of fun and information about dinosaurs. It’s a good kids’ show that educates kids without them noticing that they are learning. And the show has what I think is the best theme music for a kids’ show ever!

Dinosaurs never lose their appeal to kids of all ages – but what makes the “Dino Dan” series unique is that it was developed under the guidance of paleontologists at Canada’s Royal Tyrrell Museum in Alberta.  In fact, you may be interested to know that a real-life paleontologist at the museum named Dr. Don Henderson is the inspiration for the “Dino Dan” character!

Local Living– Even if You’re A Visitor

Living in the islands, it’s easy to forget about the mainland sometimes. That is, until you start thinking about how dependent we are on the rest of the country and world for so many things.  The cost of living is extremely high here due to the high volume of imported goods, sky-high rent and expensive utility costs. Of course, we stay here because of all the wondrous benefits it offers us: gorgeous natural setting, the sparkling ocean, wonderful local produce and a welcoming spirit. To preserve what’s great about Hawaii, I’ve been on a mission to live as locally as possible. From frequenting farmer’s markets to buying locally made products like clothing and furniture, it’s all about making a lower impact globally while directly affecting your local economy.

Of course, many people only experience Hawaii as a visitor. This can mean getting swayed by tourist traps and chain restaurants out of convenience and familiarity are often the case. Experiencing a true taste of the islands is best achieved through visiting smaller towns, local organizations and family-owned restaurants.

Stay Local, Shop Local

Posting up in Honolulu is a natural choice for many. The large selection of Waikiki hotels, numerous beaches, shopping and nightlife make it a go-to spot for many travelers. Within the chain stores and imported goods vendors, there are many local spots to give your business. One of my favorite ways to do this is by visiting the three main farmer’s markets of Oahu – the Ala Moana market, Hale’iwa market and Hawaii Kai market.

The network of the markets makes creating a meeting place for the community its main priority, as well as becoming Oahu’s premiere green market. Along with locally grown, sustainably farmed produce, the markets boast zero waste stations and ask that all vendors use only bio-compostable utensils and plates. Produce from the mainland, China or anywhere else are strictly prohibited at the market.  Vendors are scoped out well before being allowed to sell at the market, so locality of the produce is ensured. Experience the literal fruits of their labor and help benefit the entire island! And it’s not just fruits and vegetables, either. Numerous artists and musicians display their work here, offering a well-rounded, original experience.

Visit a Local Farm

The locavore movement heated up along the coasts of the United States, and it’s never been more popular in Hawaii. Oahu’s climate is great year-round for producing a variety of fruits and vegetables including Kahuku corn, mangoes, papayas, pineapple and Waimanalo greens. Not only are farmers markets popping up in all neighborhoods, you can also follow the entire farm to table process by taking a farm tour.

Throughout the islands, farms support a wide range of renowned restaurants with local produce. Top Hawaiian chefs are an integral part of this partnership and have gotten behind the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement in earnest.  Many Oahu hotels feature local cuisine that can make your stay an exercise in local investment.

Wipeout 2 Nintendo DS

Guest Post –

My 4 ½ year old son, Ethan, has several life goals. One is to grow up and be an astronaut, another is to play football, and the third and most talked about goal is to become a contestant on the game show, Wipeout. So he was ecstatic when I received a new game, Wipeout 2, to review on my Nintendo DS.

Wipeout 2 offers all the same fun of the TV show- racing through crazy obstacles to beat other players and win the $50,000 prize. The game is narrated by John Anderson and John Henson, the hosts of the show on TV.

This is a fun game, but definitely not an easy game that you will complete quickly! When you first start playing, you are limited to playing as one of three characters. As you play more, other characters get unlocked and available for play. You are also limited at the beginning to just one level and you have to be the winner of the level to advance to the next level. Much easier said than done!

I appreciated that the Nintendo DS version of the game offers the ability to skip some of the obstacles. It adds time to your clock, but for me was occasionally worth it. I was a little annoyed by the fact that the game’s default is to do an instant replay of every single time you wipeout. This can easily be skipped with just the push of a button, but since I wipeout more often than not, it got a little old to constantly have to be pushing the button. The commentary from the hosts also got a little repetitive, but that’s easily fixed by turning down the volume or turning off the voiceover on the options menu.

Overall, I think this is a fun, challenging game that has kept me occupied for many hours now, and I know it will continue to do so in the future. I have a very long plane trip coming up later this month, and I will definitely be taking my Nintendo DS and Wipeout 2 along with me! Wipeout 2 is rated E10 for mild cartoon violence and comic mischief. It’s available now, as a game for Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Wii, Xbox360, and Playstation 3.

Purchase your copy of Wipeout 2 at for $27.46.

Disclosure: I received this product to review for myself. All opinions expressed here are mine and mine alone.
