aloha friday

Welcome to the first edition of Aloha Friday – The Meme.

For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, Aloha Friday is a very popular term used in Hawaii. It’s basically a day where we take it easy and look forward to the upcoming weekend – kind of like T.G.I.F. In keeping with this idea, I thought I would have an Aloha Friday on my blog as well. No long posts, no deep soul searching revelations . . . just a little fun.

To accomplish this, I’ll be posting a simple question or topic of conversation and then opening up the comments to you. If you’d like to join me, just post something on your blog with your own question and then sign the Mr. Linky below. Then we can all go around and visit each other. Simple, huh? (BTW, you can still answer the question even if you’re not participating.)

As an incentive, I’ll be giving away a 2008 Hawaiian Pictorial Wall Calendar to one random participant. The winner will be announced on Monday.

Here’s this week’s question:

What one special talent would you like to have and why?

  1. Summer says:

I would really like to be able to sew well. It would be so nice to make clothes that actually fit me in the right places, make my own halloween costumes, bags, etc.

  2. Summer says:

P.S. – There’s something waiting for you on my blog. :)

  3. Nora Bee says:

You mean besides the power to walk through walls? :-) I wish I could run. When I run I feel like I’m underwater, all clunky and slow. I see people running so gracefully and I know I will never be one of them. I think it would be such great stress relief. Aloha!

  4. Renee says:

the talent to sing (without folks making weird noises about it!)

I love to sing…but apparently folks don’t love to hear me sing. :(

  5. Laura @ Laura Williams' Musings says:

I’d love to know how to play a musical instrument… piano or violin preferably. I’ve always wanted to learn but never really took the time to.

  6. Corrie says:

Just one? Hmm, the talent of storytelling. I can read a story well, but it’s not the same as telling it.

I just love a good storyteller.

  7. JessicaK says:

I think I’d like to be able to dance. I mean REALLY dance. It looks like so much fun, but I am SO ungraceful!

  8. Judy says:

My answer is on my blog. Have a great Aloha Friday!

  9. Rach says:

I’d love to have a talent in singing. I cannot sing a song decently because I’m always out of tune. A talent in singing would be wonderful.

  10. Dana says:

I love to dance…so I guess it would be to dance very well – like so I could be a Rockette..or on Broadway. Oh yea, and I wish I could sing too to goalong with it!!!

  11. Deb says:

I’d love to be musical – able to sing, play or dance. And art – I’ve always wanted to be able to draw well. Gee, I’m not asking for much, am I! LOL

  12. Jennifer says:

It’s so hard to choose just one, but . . .

I would really love to be artistic – draw, paint, etc.

My question is on my blog!!! Happy Friday to all!

    Jennifer :-)

  13. Mike says:

I’ve kind of always wanted the ability to stop time. Then I would be able to catch up on sleep, read more books, learn a couple languages, rob the occasional bank….

Maybe I should stick with wanting to be able to draw really well.

  14. Sunny says:

The first thing that came to my mind was to be able to fly, but that’s more of a super-power than a talent, right?

So if it’s got to be a talent someone could actually have, I’d have to say…I’ve always wanted to be a folk singer! Me and my guitar, singing meaningful songs I wrote myself. However, I cannot sing or play an instrument, though I have made some rather regrettable attmepts in my youth.

  15. Stacey says:

I wish I was gifted with the ability to entertain–I enjoy people so much but I have NEVER had the talent or the ability to successfully throw a gathering–so I just gave up. I’m a Martha reject, I know, I know. Give me a few, I’ll do one on mine too. xoxo

  16. Marie says:

I’d choose to be much less inhibited. I do have a lot of talents, but am too hung up to really take advantage of them.

  17. Christine says:

Play the piano. I’ve always wanted to learn, but I have short little fingers.
    Happy Friday, Kailani!

  18. pinks & blues girls says:

This is such a great idea!!

I would love to be able to play an instrument and write songs. I’ve always wanted to play the piano and the guitar but never took lessons.

Hopefully I will take them up someday!

    Jane, Pinks & Blues

  19. La Bellina Mammina says:

play the piano or guitar – I started taking piano lessons in school but stopped halfway :-(

  20. Desert Songbird says:

I always wanted to play the guitar. I want to accompany myself when I sing, and playing an instrument helps a vocalist stay in pitch.

I’m gonna try to take guitar lessons. Soon.

  21. Expat Mom says:

Well, I would love to be able to fly, but I guess that´s more of a superpower than a talent. :D

I would like to be more organized. Some women manage to raise kids, homeschool them, keep the house clean . . . I´m not one of them and I would LOVE to be!

  22. Jennifer says:

So, Kailani says I need to ask my own question, too, so that everyone can come over to my blog and post their answers, so . . . my questions is this:

You just won the lottery (let’s say you win $100 million). What would you do with the money? My answer will be at my blog. Come over & visit!!!

  23. Pinkjagxj says:

A talent is a beautiful thing.
I love music and I love to sing. Unfortunately for those around me I cannot carry a tune. That however doesn’t stop me from singing so my special “I wish for” talent would be to sing.

  24. Melli says:

    Okay… I didn’t play this one — but if I remember NEXT Friday – before I go to work… I’ll play then!

The special talent I THINK I would like to have (off the top of my head) would be to be able to draw “realistic” people. I’m very artistic – in many ways – but I have NEVER been able to come even close to a realistic sketch of a person. Drives me nuts! And the reason? Just for fun!

  25. Tiffanie says:

I would love to be able to draw well. I love the detail and coloring. I’m just so not talented!

  26. Kim says:

I would love to be able to tell jokes that actually make sense, AND make people laugh! I’m not a comedian, and can barely even remember how the joke is supposed to go! But do enjoy hanging out with those people that can make somebody laugh…

  27. Kim says:

My first linking to another site, cool! Come check out my Question!

  28. Grace says:

I would love to sing better, I mean to effortlessly sing ANY song without breaking my neck vein. :-)

  29. Pamela says:

    dance

  30. Jenny says:

I would like to have a lot of special talents, but I think I would like to fly most of all. :)

  31. MyStarbucks says:

I have always wanted to sing really well. Like Mariah Carey well. I even contemplated voice lessons because I am not that bad but would love to be awesome and sing in public.

  32. donetta says:

Ultimate Wisdom to be able to say and do the right thing for the sake of self and others.

  33. Krista says:

I would like my talent to be a third arm! Can that be a talent?
I thought and thought and this is all I could come up with all weekend while we were gone! Because I love holding my son and being with him, but I can’t get anything done while doing that! So if I had a third arm I could also do things! And it would have to be at the same level as the current two, not below. Like have one arm towards the front of a shoulder and one towards the back on whichever side you usually use to carry your child!

  34. Kailani says:

    HI Stacey!

Congratulations! You have won the Hawaiian Calendar. Would you like the one with Hawaiian scenery or Hawaiian flowers? Please email me your mailing address at anislandlife at yahoo dot com.

  35. Claudia says:

Aloha and Mahalo for such a nice site! One day I will be back to the islands- i miss them so!
