Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question is:

What do you feel is the best way to attract visitors to a blog?

I get a good bit of my traffic by visiting and leaving comments on other blogs. Giveaways don’t hurt either!

  2. Heather says:

Well, I can really only judge by telling you what attracts me to other blogs. That’s either commenting like crazy or being funny.

  3. Louise says:

Giveaways are great, but there is no interaction, I feel content and leaving comments on other people’s blogs oh and memes like this one are great too

  4. Cathi ~ The Way I See It Too says:

I find giveways bring in the most traffic for me.

  5. Sues2u2 says:

I love the fun memes like this one. It brings me to all sorts of blogs. From there it’s the content & also the return comments help. *grin*

  6. Kari A. says:

Having spent most of my blogging life searching for giveaways I have now enjoyed finding blogs that are funny. So I would say writing witty and interesting posts.

  7. diana/sunshine says:

i think visiting others and leaving comments. i think i got most of my readers that way. memes work too, i just don’t know how effective they are.

  8. Janet F says:

I am attracted to a blog that is updated frequently.

  9. Nabeel says:

How unique and upgrade your posts are AND of course linking and commenting also brought traffic

  10. Deb - Mom of 3 Girls says:

I think giveaways bring a lot of traffic – but not necessarily a lot of interaction. I think the best way to create a community through your blog is to visit other sites and comment. I only wish I had more time to do more of it!

  11. Megan says:

I think commenting on other blogs as well as this sort of thing where you’ve got blogs linking to you for one reason or another. Giveaways never hurt either, but I don’t always visit a blog just because they’re giving something away.

  12. Michelle says:

I would say product reviews with giveaways but to keep visitors it is the interaction that counts! Building friendships and common interests on the blogosphere is important to keep subscribers.

  13. Upstatemomof3 says:

Giveaways bring in the most traffic but commenting, responding to comments and visiting back keeps people coming.

  14. pam says:

I think commenting is a big thing. But also joining communities and groups is pretty good. (SITS, MBC, etc)

  15. East Coast Wahine says:

Visiting and leaving comments on other blogs as well as giveaways.

  16. otin says:

Just be interesting, and also visit alot of other blogs. Nudity seems to work sometimes, also! LOL!

  17. Sheila says:

Well, I think I’ve tried almost everything, but a well written blog, whether you are funny, or giving info on a subject or just well written is best. I find it amazing the amount of people who lurk. Lurking and not commenting prevents people from not seeing what the other has to offer.

Giveaways are nice, but not if you are looking for regular readers. And for the seller, I’m not sure they actually drive real business. ??

  18. pamela says:

content is important as well as giveaways but I think visiting other peoples blogs and commenting and making new friends every day is the best way.

  19. Elle says:

Visiting other blogs and leaving comments seems to work. I look for blogs that update frequently and are funny.

  20. Auntie E says:

Great question! Leaving a comment on a blog you like is great. I will visit any blogger who leave a comment on one of my post. My thought for writing a blog ,One should write well, use graphics, have humor when appropriate and truly Love what they post. There are other means to get traffic. Using Social networks, Search engines, and joining promotion sites all help. To name some , entrecard, blogcatolog, fuel my blog, bog explosion, my blog log, slogbite, along for the ride, and many more. When you are on a blog look at the different widgets on their page, there are so many site to help with Blog traffic.

  21. Angie says:

I believe the information that is on your blog attracts people. If one person like it, they usually will post your button on their blog and so on.

  22. Jenni Jiggety says:

If you comment, they will come…

I think it is all about visibility! And then of course, the content is what keeps them!

  23. Tara says:

for me it’s content, and if it is updated regularly. I always like to visit blogs that have good comment interaction too :)

  24. Andrea McMann says:

I think giveaways bring a lot of one-time traffic, but commenting, for me, brings the most repeat readers.

  25. ParentingPink says:

Honestly, I think that offering your readers “great, solid, content” is the best way to not only attract new visitors, but keep old ones coming back! I have also found that running a contest or giveaway every once in a while helps too.

  26. Kim says:

If you want regular readers, then commenting is the best way to go…or so I’ve found.

Also having useful, humorous, or debatable content seems to keep ‘em coming too.

  27. Jennifer says:

Giveaways bring people, but not necessarily readers. If you are asking specifically about traffic, I would say giveaways. If you mean faithful readers, I would answer differently. I prefer blogs where the person is telling about his or her life. Not drama, just honest thoughts. Of course there are many who seek out drama. So maybe it works? I prefer not to read it. Comments and answering comments helps as well.

  28. Delaney says:

Personally, I am drawn to blogs that are more humorous in nature. I do read other blogs but most of my favorites are usually well written and fun. Surprisingly the most hits I have had on my blog were for my articles on tattoos and of course, giveaways.

  29. Jen says:

I agree with the others, content & commenting. =)

    Happy Aloha Friday!

  30. Mighty M says:

Giveaways is you do them, otherwise just constant visiting and commenting on other blogs, if you have the time!

  31. *Just Jen* says:

For me it’s mostly MeMe’s and readers of my followers. I tend to visit the ones that are updated most often as well. TGIF!

  32. Toni says:

To get regular readers it’s making relationships through visiting other blogs and replying to comments by email (when you can).

Giveaways get a ton of visits but usually they aren’t there for your content.

I try to visit other blogs in memes and reply to people comments they leave on my blog through email, it makes it much more personal and you build a relationship.

  33. Sky says:

Saying what people want to hear. At the same time, keeping it real. KWIM?

  34. Sky says:

Saying what people want to hear. At the same time, keeping it real. KWIM?

  35. Kimert says:

I find that visting blogs and leaving comments is a good way to get someone to visit my blog in return. Or by following someone/adding a button.
I’m still looking for the “magic” way to attract more readers since I am relatively new at blogging.

  36. AmyG says:

By visiting and commenting on other blogs… which I’ve been bad at lately!

  37. Amy@Coffee with the Mrs. says:

I think you have to be willing to visit others before you can expect others to want to visit you. Meanwhile, keep it real on your blog and be yourself.

  38. Erin says:

I have had the most “success” with getting traffic on my blog by posting on fun things like this one!

  39. Semi Happy Homemaker says:

Commenting and joining in on things like Aloha Friday, or Wordless Wednesday usually gets people to my site.

  40. TheAngelForever says:

Updating with new posts often, having variety (including giveaways), and responding to each comment left as quickly as possible.

  41. Pamela Kramer says:

To attract it’s usually a giveaway and the bigger the better. Now to keep them as readers? That’s a different story. :)

Hope you are feeling well mama.

  42. This is a good one . . . I think people with common interests naturally “hook up” so . . . it’s probably from visiting blogs with a similar theme and linking from there. I’ve found some of the most interesting blogs through friends’ blogs . . . like yours! Or by posting weekly questions, like yours where others hook up and visit each others or by posting give-aways. I’ll be reading everyone else’s to see what they think and visiting their sites, so there you go!

I’ve posted an Aloha Friday at my site, too! Please swing by:

  43. Sarah Bean says:

    Content and bloghopping :)

    Aloha Friday!

  44. Sweet Serendipity says:

I have to agree with most of the other commenters. Leaving comments when you visit other blogs creates more connections and readers. Giveaways can get you some exposure and traffic aids like entrecard and linkreferral will get you some traffic, but to keep them you have to have fresh relevant content and an easy to navigate site.
I think participating regularly in forums that are relevant to your content is a great way to make long term connections too. And memes are a fun way to meet other bloggers.

  45. Amanda @ Mommy's Idea Book says:

I think it’s really a good combination of several things:
-Leaving comments on other blogs to get your name out there
    -Getting listed in Blog directories
-Posting good content that makes people want to share your links with others
-Make sure to comment on sites that have the commentluv feature, then your last blog post title will show up under your comment (make sure you have a catchy title to get attention)

  46. Sherrie says:

I’ll agree that commenting on other blogs has brought a lot of traffic. I also feel that Entrecard worked in getting traffic to my blog. There are other great sites, too…SITS and Blog Stalkers Unite are wonderful. Meme participation is another good way to get traffic. :)

  47. Abby says:

Giveaways and leaving comments on other blogs I think.

  48. Hayley says:

Doing things like this, and going to the other blogs and commenting.

  49. Michelle says:

I am still trying to figure that out! lol
I think regular posting about things other people can relate to always helps.

  50. Amanda says:

Memes bring in the most traffic for me. I use Twitter to help bring traffic to my site and join sites like Mombloggersclub and Twittermoms.

  51. MamaJoss says:

If you GIVE LOVE, you GET LOVE!

  52. Shannon says:

    free stuff (aka giveaways) :)

  53. The Social Frog says:

By visiting other’s blogs & leaving comments and going back. Sometimes a Giveaway might help, write interesting posts. Just be yourself!

  54. Liz says:

Definitely giveaways, and big money giveaways at that! Also commenting and visiting other’s blogs is a great way to introduce others to visit your blog.

  55. Gena says:

I try to visit other sites that I haven’t been to before and comment. :)

  56. angela says:

I think participating in memes and visiting other blogs

  57. Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in Parenting says:

Comments, emails, memes, link love, helping others, reviews & giveaways, well-written SEO articles and tutorials, and most importantly, fresh, good, attracting content in your niche.

  58. Melissa says:

There’s so many things… commenting, daily memes, entrecard, giveaways, writing interesting posts and the list goes on and on

  59. Brandi says:

Having a meme, and also commenting on other peoples blogs…

  60. Jenny says:

I have found that these memes seem to attract the most visitors.

  61. Summer says:

A unique and memorable design, such as yours, is a good start. :D

  62. Elizabeth says:

I think the best way to attract visitors is to be REAL and be yourself. Be funny, happy, sarcastic, whatever your true nature is. Because it comes out in your writing and readers can tell when you are trying to be someone you’re not.

Happy Friday! Hope you’re feeling better today :)

  63. Rach (Heart of Rachel) says:

Leaving good comments on other people’s sites would most likely result to a return visit. It’s a good start of establishing common interests.

  64. Jinxy says:

Commenting on other blogs has brought people to mine. I like blogs that update often and I’m a sucker for pictures.

  65. MommyAmy says:

Tough question! I really have no idea. I’ve only been blogging for about 4 months so I’m still learning what works and what doesn’t. I will say that participating in carnivals such as yours is a great way to attract new visitors to your blog! Every time I participate in one my visitor count goes way up and I often get 1 or 2 new subscribers.

  66. Shelley K says:

I think that doing things like Quotable Sundays, Wordless Wednesdays, and Aloha Fridays are a great way to get new visitors. I know that is how get to other blogs.

  67. Jen E @ mommablogsalot says:

It seems to me that visiting other people’s blogs and commenting so they know you’ve been there is probably the best thing you can do – and memes – love the memes!

  68. Sharinskishe says:

I think the best thing to do is just be yourself. Don’t worry about traffic and just have fun.

Visit others you run across that see to fit your personality and style. Leave encouraging and supportive, but honest, comments. Again, just be yourself.

Thanks for asking. Thanks for hosting. Take care of yourself and your family.

    Sharinskishe

  69. Tena says:

    being a loyal commentor yourself

  70. Mandee says:

I think that if you leave comments on blogs, people will visit yours! Giveaways are a big hit too!

  71. Kila says:

Probably to simply visit their blog and leave a comment.

  72. Pamela says:

I think giveaways is the best way —
    obviously I’m not doing that.

Like Kila said above … another way is to be a commenter.

  73. Forgetfulone says:

An attractive website gets them there, but real content keeps them there.
