Aloha Friday #77

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question is:

How do you celebrate Easter?

We usually get together with my family for dinner. We also dye eggs and have an Easter egg hunt with all the cousins. Since I’m not feeling well this year, we’ll just stay home, decorate cookies, and do our own little Easter egg hunt in the living room.

We go to Easter Vigil service on Saturday and wake up Sunday, hunt for Easter Baskets and enjoy a day relaxing, eating candy and playing games as a family.

The kids wake up and find the eggs that the Easter bunny hides for them around the house. We have breakfast and then go to church. Then we go and visit with both of our parents. It is a pretty laid back day overall.

    Hope you enjoy your Easter!!

Normally, we’d wake up & find our baskets, go to church, come home & cook a big southern style Easter dinner…

However, I am leaving this Easter and my kids are going to be celebrating alone with just my husband and his Mother. I am bummed, but I’m sure they will still have a good time.

My best friend is dressing up in an Easter Bunny costume and will hand deliever their baskets this year. They are sure to get a kick out of that.

  39. MamaJoss says:

My whole family is coming to our place this year…I have to satisfy the Irish Catholics and Polish Catholics with my menu…ok…better get cookin’…Happy Easter.

  42. Brandi says:

First off I hope you start feeling better soon! It sucks to feel crappy all the time!

And we don’t really have an Easter tradition. This year we are going to my families house to hang out, have an Easter egg hunt with cousins and to watch them. They are all little so it is fun for them! Next year when Marlee is older I am not sure what we will do.

    Have a fabulous Easter!

  43. IE Mommy says:

It’s one of the few holiday where the entire family is together.
We go to church, we have eat and we have an Easter egg hunt. It’s pretty low key. Someone always has a bible verse or story about the true meaning of Easter that they share with everyone. It’s my second favorite holiday.

Swing by The IE Mommy to view my question.

  44. Toni says:

We go to my mother in laws or she comes here and we just spend time as a family after church. WE hide eggs for the kids and just have a fun time

  45. Jen E @ mommablogsalot says:

We go to dh’s parents house for breakfast and then my grandparents for lunch – good food, easter egg hunting, family. We would be adding church to this schedule but we had a timing conflict this year. :/

  46. Kim says:

We always enjoy a Easter Sunday lunch at y parents house followed with egg hunting by the grandchildren.

  47. Renee says:

We attend Church services all Holy Week. DD hunts for eggs early on Easter Morning and then we attend our Church Service.
Later we will go to MIL’s house for Easter Brunch and possibly another egg hunt…if not then she’ll have a treat for DD cuz she loves to spoil her.

  48. Shannon says:

We go to church in the morning. Then we have an Easter Egg Hunt in our backyard for the kids. If we hadn’t dyed eggs, we do it then. Plus we have ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and a yummy dessert for the evening’s meal.

Since my girls are so little, we keep it casual – crafts and lessons, egg dying…then on Sunday, we go to church and have a big mid-day meal. :)

  53. Jen says:

this year we’re keeping things very simple. not sure we’ve ever not been simple. we’ll go to church on Sunday and probably Saturday and Sunday afternoon we’ll hunt eggs for fun. i’ll ponder all weekend the meaning of this season in my life as a believer in Jesus Christ.

  54. Karen MEG says:

Decorated eggs this year, SIL is hosting my husband’s side of the family dinner. My family is scattered this year…it’s tough, another difficult family event without my father who we just lost in January. Even my mom is away.

So we’re just doing the Easter chocolate hunt at home this weekend. I’m still debating whether or not to attend mass on Sunday, but it might be too difficult without my parents and siblings.

  55. Autumn @ My MoonBean says:

This year we are celebrating differently b/c my mom and Grandpa are going to the Master’s on Sunday. Our whole fam is getting together tomorrow at my sister’s house to eat lunch and then we will all have fun watching the little ones hunt Easter eggs! On a side note, this is the first year we are attemtping dying easter eggs w/ my 2 1/2 year old…should be fun :)

  56. heatherlyn says:

We definitely color eggs! We do lots of things to celebrate Easter that are fun and springish and other things that focus on Jesus Christ. It is a lovely holiday. Happy Easter!

  57. Amy@Coffee with the Mrs. says:

My family goes to church and then gets together for a big, family dinner. We’ll also be having an Easter Egg hunt around the house with Alex in the morning. :) *I have my fingers crossed that my parents made me an Easter basket. Is that silly?

  58. Megan says:

It has definitely changed since I’ve gotten older. And since we don’t have kids we don’t do anything special. Go to church and then to one of our parents where we sit on our butts and watch tv and eat lunch / dinner. Nothing too thrilling. lol

  59. Rita says:

We get up early, eat a good breakfast and hide Easter candy and eggs for the kids to find. Actually my hubby hides them. It’s a tradition I could do without. Then we all go to Easter services at church and worship the LIVING GOD. Then we come home, eat a feast of baked ham and all the trimmings – and take a long nap afterward.

  60. MommyAmy says:

In years past we often go to a buffet type meal at this fancy hotel… it’s really yummy!

But this year we decided that my nearly 2 year old twins needed to have their first Easter Egg Hunt, so we’re having Easter at my mom’s house. I’m planning to dye eggs either today or tomorrow, I’m so excited!!!

  61. Shelley K says:

We go to church and then go to brunch. Oh, and we STILL color easter eggs–even though it’s just the two of us :)

  62. Abby says:

We will go to church and then we are goinig to a friend’s house for brunch and an Easter egg hunt. Should be fun!

  63. Anne says:

usually baskets but this year its going to be a chocolate bunny for kids and that’s it. Its not christmas lol

  64. jaime says:

it’s not my holiday. but my mom got plastic easter eggs and filled them with cheerios. she hid them all over the house and yard for my son to find.

  65. Kate says:

We’re going to have dinner for my father and my sister and her hubby and my brother. I think it’ll be about 9 of us altogether. My oldest has to work so it’ll just be a relaxing day and missing her at dinner.

  66. Krista says:

    Happy Easter!

We always go to church and then have a small lunch with some family. Last year we visited my grandmother and then went out to eat since my parents were in the Virgin Islands… lucky them!

  67. The Girl Next Door says:

In every year past, we have awoken to the Easter Egg Hunt left by the Easter bunny (yes even when the twins were 15 YO) and then we dress up for Church and have dinner with the family.

this year they are out of town with their dad. And I am alone. My extended family is far away and the Ex’s family, well, that isn’t right. So I will go to church with friends and then spend the day doing my own, unEastery Thing. It will be different!

  68. Beth says:

We attend Church and I cry every year because the hymns for Easter are so fantastic.

  69. Erin says:

Every year is different because we have lived in different states and have not had family and/or a home church nearby.
THIS year we will be going to Church (dont know WHICH service yet) and then the neighbors are having some sort of BBQ type thingie. So. This year, that is what we are doing!

  70. Bethany says:

Usually I attend a vigil with my parents and party until dawn at my old college. This year I’ll be going to an Easter dinner with my co-worker’s family.

  71. Emily says:

We go to sunrise service at a local lake, then head out to a family member’s beach house. The kids have an easter egg hunt on the beach and the adults make a huge dinner and watch the sunset from the porch.

It’s usually a pretty nice day.

  72. angela says:

we have both religious and family customs, going to church is a must as is easter egg hunt for the little ones. We love to color eggs and have a large dinner as well.

  73. Caroline says:

Hello! First timer here…love your site! We celebrate by going to church and Nana and Papa’s house for breakfast casserole. It is a fun tradition that the kids love along with the annual Easter egg hunt :) Of course, as tradition remains…nana calls over to read all of the ingredients in her candy for the kiddos. Our son has/had severe food allergies and Eczema and we are still careful about what he gets ahold of. However- thanks to many prayers, God took care of us and our miracle has been the children’s chewable probiotics that have virtually healed him. Happy Easter all! *Mommy of 2 (one with a missing front tooth and the other healed from Eczema…and as ornery as can be)

  74. Pamela says:

My mom was a very conservative Christian — but we never really celebrated Easter. She let us dye & decorate eggs, but we didn’t do anything else. We didn’t have a big fancy dinner, and family never came over as if it was a holiday. Thus, I never did much either — kids dyed eggs – and that stuff.

I guess it is never too late to start a new tradition.

  75. Jamie says:

We always visit the local mall and have pictures made with the Easter bunny, attend a city-wide egg-hunt, church egg-hunt, and dye Easter eggs the day before Easter. Then we attend church services and spend the rest of the afternoon with family – a nice family meal and hunting eggs for the kiddies. It’s great to have family together time and remember the price Christ paid for us.
