Aloha Friday #39

July 3, 2008

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

What are you planning on doing with your surplus check?

I had planned on giving my half to DH since he pays for most of the bills. However, he told me I should buy something that I normally wouldn’t get for myself. He didn’t have to tell me twice. This is what I got:

Isn’t she pretty?

It is gorgeous! If I were to get a nice check, I would buy something electronic like a kickin camera.

What a lovely Coach handbag.

If I had a surplus check, I would love to spend it on a nice weekend getaway with the family.

That handbag certainly IS gorgeous!

Ours went into savings. But MK’s eye tooth is coming in over his baby tooth so … *sigh* … our family dentist will most likely see most of it.

The dreaded coach bag! Mrs. Pet Haven loves these designer bags.

We ended up putting new cabinets in our kitchen with our check, so it worked out as both an investment in our property, and something we really wanted.

our stimulus check is going back to the bank to cover what we had to pay out to the IRS. :(

See DH doesn’t believe that the government should keep our money and not pay us any interest, so he has our figures set so that we normally owe about $100 each year…but this year he made a stock sale (dumping some bad stocks) so we owed almost exactly what the stimulus amount we’re getting is…oh and then he forgot to put DD’s SSN on our return so the IRS sent us a letter saying we owed another $600…turns out they were gonna just short our stimulus check by that amount (which they didn’t mention in the letter!) so when I called them up we’re now getting two stimulus checks. it’s all crazy!

We were lucky enough (or unlucky enough, depending on how you look at it) to be in the first group to receive our check via eft. That money was spent before we even received it due to very expensive dental work for the boys. We’re still paying for it. So, we didn’t get to spend it on anything fun.

Ah, she’s pretty!

My check will be going towards house payments. Nothing so pretty, I know, but seeing that loan amount dwindle is pretty exciting, too.

Hmm.. What did we do with our money? It has been for a couple months now.. Oh! Right. Each of us got a new iphone. :) That’s what we got. The rest went to saving to boost up our emergency fund.

BTW, I’m so green with envy on your gorgeous bag. We just went to the Coach outlet today.. You will think that they give out the bag for free. And they said the economy is down? ;)

We received our refund a while ago. I think we may use some of it for a new dehumidifier, vacuum (not sure what type), and a snow blower. All things we really need.

Oooh. That is beautiful! I love Coach purses. They are made so well but have a lifetime guarantee. The strap broke on one of mine a few years ago. Not only did Coach fix that, but they put on all new hardware and really cleaned it up beautifully for me.

Love Coach bags. I’ll always be a customer.
