Aloha Friday #35

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

What is one of the nicest things someone has ever done for you?

As most of you know, my uncle recently passed away. I only mentioned it in passing on one of my posts and our family really appreciated all your kind words of condolences. Today, I received a sympathy card in the mail from Jenny of Rocket XL. It always amazes me when people take the time to send an actual card through the mail but when it comes from someone you barely know, it means even more. I worked with Jenny on a review opportunity last month and traded a few emails with her since. But I never expected her to take time out of her busy schedule to think about me. I am so overwhelmed by her kindness! If you stumble upon this, thank you Jenny! Your kind words and gesture will mean more than you’ll ever know.

I’m sorry to hear about your uncle.

The nicest thing that someone has done for me was watch my child for me when I really needed someone to watch her…even though she knew I could never repay her.

I once received an anonymous gift of cash in the mail right when we were going through a rough time financially. I’m not sure who sent it!

When our family was moving across the US, a woman came up to me in McDonald’s and gave me $20. She must have noticed the storage carrier on the roof of our car, our out of state plates, and the 4 little kids we walked in with. I’m not sure why she gave me the money, but it was very helpful because it cost us a lot to move across the country.

About 6 years ago Hubby was in college, Red was 3 years old and Little Bug was 1. One day I was rather overwhelmed and I sat a box on the top of my stove. Yeah. Then I turned the wrong burner on. Lovely flames, terrified kids and smoke and ash filled the house. I threw the box in the sink and thenran the kids to the neighbors house. She thought I was rather odd.. but kept the kids for a bit. I went back and got the kids a little later and then tried to clean all the ash off of everything. A friend called and I started to cry. She dropped everything. Stopped at McDonalds and bought us lunch, came over, sent me upstairs to calm the kids and be with them and she started scrubbing. She cleaned and cleaned while I held my kids and let them know that everything would be okay. When I finally got them settled down I came back downstairs. She was almost finished getting the ash off the drapes. She had already cleaned off the walls, couches, chairs, tables, carpet and all the little knick knacks around the room. It was an amazing gesture of kindness I’ll never forget!

In February my then 9 month old son stopped breathing, had a febrile seizure, and was hospitalized for four days. My friend came to the hospital the morning after we had been up for over 24 hours. She kidnapped me to drive me home to shower, pack clothing and anything else I needed. While I was in the shower she cleaned up our living room and did some other things for me. Her husband stayed with my husband and our son. In addition to this they also brought a special puppet for our little guy and brought us dinner the first night we were back home.

My mother also saved my baby’s life doing rescue breaths to help him live. He was gray when she started and beyond lifeless. I guess that is why she and my youngest have a special bond.

My husband is the epitome of chivalry. I am incredibly lucky to be treated like a princess everyday. He opens doors including the car door for me. He goes so far beyond the “duty” of a husband.

The nicest thing that anybody’s ever done for me – I can think of two. My friend and her husband helped me move out of a bad situation – he took the weekend off and they helped me pack up and move. Then last fall we received a gift that helped us be able to buy birthday presents for Hannah and Christmas presents for all of the girls. We’ll pay that one forward once we’re able. :)

My husband passed away unexpectedly when my girls were 5 and 17months. Two Mom’s of my oldest daughters friends came over while we were gone to the funeral and straightened up our house, cleaned out my fridge, and stocked it with all kinds of stuff the girls would like (and some for me too)!!!

My daughter is still friends with that child and this week that same Mom has come by every day to take my oldest to VBS. She knows we have a new baby and that me getting her to VBS would be hard!!! She is a great Mom and Friend!!!

    Good Morning Sweet Lady…
Recently My Mother in Law saw that I favored a blouse I had on. She offered to make a pattern of it. She made two renditions of the pattern , one that was darts and the other was as the original with 8 sections or parts to it. She then made me one just like it. It was so pretty. It is in the trunk of the car yet from last weekend. I will take it in a little and hem it. It is so cute!
That was so thoughtful. She worked on it all week.

Oh Kailani, I’m sorry to hear about your uncle.

With my husband on vacation, he’s been helping here and there around the house, and helping me watch the kids.
Then last night he shared his Subway sandwhich with me. Usually we both have our own, but he thought I’d allready eaten, and I hadn’t, so he passed half to me.

I’m so sorry to hear about your uncle!!!!

One of the things that stands out for me was when our 3rd was born and I had to have a c-section b/c he was breech. We already had 2 kids ages 18 months and 3 so I was really nervous about having a newborn and watching 2 littles one after just having had a c-section. A good friend of mine at the time jumped in and took my older 2 for a week to help me out! It was awesome!

I can actually think of several scenarios, but the one that always makes me smile is when my husband – for no reason whatsoever (other than love) – packed a suitcase and swept me away to a bed and breakfast that he ahd picked out all by himself online.

I was totally overwhelmed. And that remained tops on my list until our 25th anniversary which took up THREE days of blogging because it was so incredibly romantic and awesome.

  20. Amy says:

I’ve blogged about this often, but the nicest thing anyone has done for me is give me constant care for a year. My three kids, husband and mother did absolutely everything for me that year no matter what I needed. Bathing, feeding, rubbing my joints, heating up rice packs, helping me go to the bathroom, cleaning up after me if I didn’t make it. It was a rough year. But none of them ever once complained. Ever. Not even to each other. They showed me how much they truly loved me. It was an unconditinal love for sure.

I am so thankful for them and have been able to take care of them now. And it feels so good!

but Wow, so many good stories of kindness. I guess the nicest thing ever done for me is my father paid my way through college, and supported me during that time so I could focus on school.
