Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing heavy or too thought-provoking.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question/statement is:

Name one tip for becoming a better blogger.

Be yourself. It’s so much easier to blog when you’re true to who you are.

About the author:
Owner and founder of An Island Life. Sharing my life as a mother to 3 wonderful daughters, working as a flight attendant, and living a blessed life in Hawaii.

I think my tip would be: Know your audience.
I write for my family and I need to remember that. I think I’ve been getting to caught up in trying to be “popular”. That’s not what’s important here.

  2. if you can help it, keep it short! if you can’t keep it short … keep it organized! if you can’t keep it short and organized … it should be interesting!

My best tip I can say is simple: be yourself. Don’t try to be some online persona that you’re not. That’s my advice.

my tip: you gotta comment to get comments.

    Blogging should be fun!

    Fun is contagious, too!

  9. Rosie says:

I would say take time to read other people’s blogs and leave comments so you are engaging with your audience and sharing in the blogging experience.

  10. Other than the tips already left (great ones!), I think I would say to try to break up long paragraphs of text either with photos or into smaller paragraphs (or smaller posts). It’s hard to read through a long block of text no matter how interesting or funny the post is.

  11. Tiffany says:

I would have to say to blog for yourself. I know you obviously want other people to read it also, but if you get caught up in blogging for everyone else, you will lose the reason you started blogging in the first place. So, blog about the things you enjoy and other people will read it.

By the way, thanks for putting my giveaway on An Island Review!

  12. Kila says:

    All good ideas above.

I enjoy reading other blogs for fresh ideas and perspectives.

  13. 1. be yourself. and that means show your vulnerability.
    2. visit other blogs and leave comments. you can’t expect to receive comments if you’re not willing to do it yourself.
    3. be mindful of the way your blog looks. keep it clean and simple.

  14. Melissa says:

Your blog isn’t the most important thing in the world. Don’t lose focus or priorities because of it. Keep it as a fun thing!

  15. Jendi says:

I enjoyed reading through the previous tips. The first ones I thought of were already mentioned.

Don’t get caught up in the appearance of your blog more than the content. The look certainly enhances the blog; but it’s the content, not the colors, that brings readers back.

  16. Grace says:

I think that blogging everyday can make you a better blogger. Blogging requires dedication and time, making it a goal to blog everyday is a good start to know whether you can continue blogging or will fold up in a few weeks.

  17. Jeannie says:

I love the ideas everyone sent….

  18. I think to be a better blogger you need to make sure what you do makes you happy. Too many people get swept up into it and forget that.

  19. Christine says:

These are all great tips. I couldn’t agree more.

Blog about what you find interesting, or what reflects what is going on in your world, and then visit other blogs. You’d be surprised at all the things you learn from other bloggers and have fun making some wonderful friends along the way.

    Christine’s last blog post..Aloha Friday

  20. Heather says:

In addition to the great suggestions already given, be nice! You gain more friends with honey than with vinegar. As my momma always says, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all!

  21. Pamela says:

    Use Spell Check.
    (and correct grammar.)

  22. bonggamom says:

This is my first Aloha Friday! My tip would be to participate in memes (like this one!) so you get to know people around the blogosphere and they get to know you.

  23. Ellen says:

When someone gives you a comment, visit their site and return a comment.

  24. Hmm, I think my suggestions are all here, but I think the most important tip is BE YOURSELF. This is not a popularity contest.

Great idea for the meme, Kailani.
