Are We There Yet? is having a photo contest where the winner will receive Closeup Shooting: A Guide to Closeup, Tabletop and Macro Photograph by Cyrill Harnischmacher. Since I’d like to get more serious about photography, I would love to win this book! There’s no theme this week so I thought I’d enter a photo from my archive called “Peeking Through”.

Voting starts tomorrow but don’t worry, I’ll remind you. ;-)

If you look on the sidebar, you’ll see I have a new friend here at An Island Life.

Phylana Stowers is the brains behind Stowers Swaddlers & Stationary. Through her many years of experience as a Labor & Delivery nurse, nanny, and of course Mother, she knows how hard it can be for new parents to learn how to swaddle their brand new baby. Her uniquely designed Swaddling Blankets have won a gold medal for children’s products at the Impex International Invention Convention and was even featured on the Dr. Phil show!

Over the years, she’s expanded her boutique to include other essential baby items such as burp cloths, organic onesies, gift baskets, photo albums, journals, as well as hand crafted cards and stationary products.

So when you get a chance, please stop by Stowers Swaddlers & Stationary where you’ll find many essential items for your baby.

Update: You’re all invited to take 15% of your next purchase by enter the code IslandLife at checkout!

Aloha Friday #29

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing heavy or too thought-provoking.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

How do you feel is the best way to respond to comments on your blog?

Comment Spotlight by GroovyOldLady of Groovy’s Ruminations:

Odd, I was just going to post a question like that. Isn’t there some unwritten blog policy? I’d have to guess not because everyone seems to handle it differently.

I usually go the commenters blog if I’m going to respond because I guess I really don’t believe nyone will ever come back to my blog and read the commetns again – unless they flamed me and want to see if I took the bait. But no one ever does that on my blog because I’m so darned cute and adorable and they all like me. That, or they write nasty things about me AFTER i’ve commented on their blogs and can do so without fear because I never go back to check for a response.

Kailani, are you reading this? Hellll-oooooooooooo.

To Quit or Not To Quit

Once a week, Girlie Girl takes a Hip Hop dance class. Now, since she’s so into High School Musical, Hannah Montana, & The Cheetah Girls, you would think that she would be enjoying herself, right? Wrong! Every week it’s the same ‘ol battle to get her ready and off to class. And every week there’s a different reason why she doesn’t want to go – it’s too hard, she gets tired, the class is too long, it’s too hot, she gets thirsty, she gets a headache, on and on and on. This has been going on for about 6 months now.

So my question is this, at what point do we give up? Or do we give up?

If it were her swim or piano class, there’s no way I’d let her quit. However, I really don’t think Hip Hop is essential to her future. And if she did stop taking Hip Hop, then I would try to persuade her to take another form of dance.

DH on the other hand says it the principle of it. If we let her quit, then she won’t learn how to persevere.

So, what do you think? If she were your child, would you let her quit?
