A Birthday Celebration

November 27, 2007 by

This past weekend we went to my niece’s 1st birthday party along with 200 of their closest friends and family members.

There were air brush tatoos

A magical bubble show

Great food

Beautiful decorations

A bounce house, live entertainment, caricatures, and balloon animals. Needless to say, we all had a great time!

Update: Yes, it does seem crazy to have such a huge party for a 1 year old. I’m not sure how or why it started but in Hawaii it’s a pretty common thing. It’s almost expected. There were more guests at Baby Bug’s 1st Birthday than at my wedding!

The Black Friday Experience

November 26, 2007 by

Okay, I know I said I try to avoid Black Friday at all costs, however, this year my sister begged and begged for me to go with her. What was I to do?

The only thing is that she wanted to go to the Waikele Premium Outlet Mall and their sales started at 12:01 am. Yes, that’s right, one minute after midnight. The only thing crazier than that is the fact that I had to work a flight in the morning.

As I sat outside Starbucks at 11:15pm waiting for my sister, I watched literally thousands of people walk from their cars to the stores. It was an absolute mad house! Cars who got stuck in the middle of the intersection were quickly engulfed in a mass of pedestrians. I’ve never seen anything like it.

The first store we went to was The Children’s Place where I got some pretty good deals. I purchased 12 shirts for the girls for $51.00. I started to think that maybe Black Friday wasn’t so bad after all. However, after that things went downhill quickly. Every store that we walked into had at least a 2 hour wait for the cashiers. I felt almost relieved when I couldn’t find anything I wanted to buy. And on the occasion that I did, I wondered if a $5 shirt was really worth standing in line for 2 hours. It wasn’t.

The thing that got me were those who had their kids with them. I was really lucky that DH came home that night from a trip, otherwise, there is no way I would have gone. I couldn’t believe this one lady I saw who was standing in such a long line and yelling at her son who was throwing a tantrum. How in the world can you expect your child to behave nicely when it’s 2 in the morning? With all the lines and crowds and being tired and knowing I had to work in the morning, there were times when I felt like throwing a fit.

Anyway, it’s now Sunday evening and I’m still trying to recuperate from my all-night shopping adventure. It didn’t help that I had to work in the morning or that my in-laws came for a visit on Saturday which meant having to go out to dinner when I came home that evening. Or that we had an early birthday party to attend Sunday morning followed by Taiko practice and dinner at my parents house.

Would I do it again next year? Probably not.

For those who did brave the crowds, did you get any good deals? Was it worth it?

The winner is Nissa H. of Nissa’s Niceties!
Congratulations!

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas! Did you know that there are only 31 shopping days left? Lucky for you, I have the perfect gift for that someone special in your life. How about a personalized jewelry item from Julian & Co.?

Julian & Co. was inspired by the premature birth of Tania’s son, Julian. Since he was so tiny, they had a difficult time finding a bracelet that would fit his wrists. That’s when Tiana decided to make a sterling silver ID bracelet herself. Her love of fashion and jewelry has help turn her pieces into works of art that will be treasured for years to come.

The best part is that the entire line of Julian & Co. is made of handcrafted, quality pieces that are durable enough to be worn on a daily basis by active little ones!

Guess what? Julian & Co. is generously giving away a $59 gift certificate to one lucky winner! To enter, just stop by Tania’s online boutique before November 27th and browse through her beautiful collection. Then come back here and mention what your favorite item is. That’s it! A random winner will be selected and notified on November 28th.
